ARCHIVED Anyone Else A Metabolic 'protein' Type?
Kaycee replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Ali, I think you have hit the nail on the head. Too many choices. I remember a time when coke was only drunk at Christmas time. But now we seem to, well maybe not us, expect treats every day. If I didn't have coeliac, I don't think I would've ventured too far from my diet. It wasn't totally bad, but so full of carbs, and all the dietitians would... -
ARCHIVED Celiac - Depression & Anxiety
Kaycee replied to wilem008's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have suffered from blue days. I won't call it depression, as I have never been diagnosed with it. It would come and go all my life. A day here and a day there. Then there would be the occassional stint of a week of feeling very blue. I've always said, tomorrow I will feel better, and most of the times I did. Only now looking back can I appreciate... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else A Metabolic 'protein' Type?
Kaycee replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Thanks Patti, I tried going low GI, but I only lasted a couple of days, it was too complicated. And unfortunately, if I can find a way to cheat, I will. But I will never on the gluten free diet. I belong to a NZ forum as well, there are about 5 of us in total, and we all seem to struggle with things more than gluten. Weight seems to be our biggest... -
ARCHIVED The Funny Pages - Tickle Me Elbow - The Original
Kaycee replied to TriticusToxicum's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Now onto something serious. I know seriousness is not in the rules, but I'll put it in anyway. I learnt a new word the other day, "orthorexia". I've just checked the dictionary, and failing that, cause I couldn't find it in there, I did a search on the net and I came across this test. Open Original Shared Link I only answered three questions... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else A Metabolic 'protein' Type?
Kaycee replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi. I'm not sure of my metabolic type, but I know I feel a lot better eating less carbohydrates. I'm 50, always been overweight and toyed with a lot of diets and have finally come here to a low carb diet, not just to loose weight, but to gain more energy and feel alive. I admit, that going low carb makes me less hungry. It has only been a couple... -
ARCHIVED Could I Have Undiagnosed Celiac And Gain Weight?
Kaycee replied to Britt-ME's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes Britt you can have coeliac and gain weight. I am one of those. For me prior to diagnosis I had a terrible time with my weight. I'm not saying by going gluten free all my weight problems have gone, far from it, but at least I have remained about the same weight since being gluten free, whereas before it was slowly creeping up. Yes I will let you rename dieting Catherine. Well this one feels like she has been on a diet forever, so it is probably quite fitting to give it my name. The diet of my choice now is low carb..............Cathy's carb control. I like the sound o Maureen mintenance, as I have a good friend who lost a heap of weigh at least 10 years ago, and hasn't put... -
ARCHIVED I'm A Weird Celiac - Gained Weight?
Kaycee replied to jparsick84's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hands up here to being another weirdo. Like you I was always hungry pre-diagnosis, and it is hard to fight hunger. Like you upon hindsight I think it was because my body was trying to get all the nutrients it could. But now, I am no longer as hungry. I have not put on any extra weight, but I still find it hard to loose weight. Acutually I think you... -
Mosaic, that sounds wonderful. We have just bought 18 acres, and it is a bare block, we have moved a house on, but the council is so slow, we haven't been able to do anything with it yet. Once we get the go ahead, we will start the renovating etc etc. It will take time, but it willbe worth it in the end. As we are now living in the city and getting...

ARCHIVED Those Of You Who Are Carb Intolerant --
Kaycee replied to BRUMI1968's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Bully4you Thanks for that. I'm relieved about that. I have been trying a low carb diet for a few weeks, and I was just so amazed at where all the carbs are. It seems so hard to avoid them. It's taking me a while to whittle down to about 100g a day. The thing I find hard, is to eat more protein. I'm of the old school and worry about all the fats in the... -
ARCHIVED Those Of You Who Are Carb Intolerant --
Kaycee replied to BRUMI1968's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I thought it was dangerous to cut out carbs completely because we need carbs to survive. Cathy -

Do we do have some bizarre creatures down here? You're not referring to my husband are you? Sea dwellers, I can't think what, maybe when I was swimming? Look at this (no it's not my hubby) Open Original Shared Link? These are really scary looking things, harmless, bite just a wee bit, but I always do a double take when I see them. Cathy -

Must count our lucky stars, we have nothing over here like jumping/leaping squirrels! Elye "What's a vulva?" if you were quick enough you could've said a car (Volvo). Reminds me of when we had religious instruction at school and somehow or other I got asked to ask a question about contraception. Me being young and stupid did ask the question, and... -

ARCHIVED Hello From New Zealand
Kaycee replied to Colleen.C's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Another hello from New Zealand. This time from Whangarei. Binn Inn, I remember going into one thinking I might try to mix my own flours, but the gluten free flours were below barley flour mixes etc etc. I too was so worried about contamination and those scoops could easily go from one bin to another no sweat. What's to stop someone accidently re-filling... -

Saturday afternoon, not doing much. Big son is pining for a mcdonalds breakfast and says it must be a month since he's had one. Trying to figure out when I last had Mcd's for breakfast. I guess it was nearly three years ago, and hubby pipes up, yeah, just before I was coeliaced. Overheard a group of 10 year olds talking about farting the other day... -

I'm infrequent here too, must've been in here at least once, as I still get notification of messages from silyville. Thanks for the laughs. After 800 posts according to rumour, you can experience strange after effects. I don't think it will be itching burning or swelling symptoms, as to me that sounds far too much like gluten poisoning. It has to... -
ARCHIVED Pain On My Heels And Tickling On My Toes

ARCHIVED Pain On My Heels And Tickling On My Toes
Kaycee replied to MELINE's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was reading last night a site that Dr Rodney Ford from New Zealand has set up and I came across this. It is pretty interesting to say the least. And yes when I get glutened I feel so heavy and yuck the next day. It is an effort to even get to the loo first thing in the morning. And I get aches and pains all over. You can find his site at Open... -
ARCHIVED Coffee
Kaycee replied to jewi0008's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It might not be gluten free. I am pretty wary about all flavours and colourings. I just drink plain coffee. Cathy -
I'd just like to say, I was diagnosed by positive blood tests, and my biopsy was negative. Also, I feel so much better being gluten free, most of my symptoms have dissappeared by following the diet. But I know how you feel about not knowing for sure, and it has made me wonder whether to test the theory or not. But it did take time to really notice big...

ARCHIVED Is There Anything I Can Do To Supress My Appetite?
Kaycee replied to blondebombshell's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
AliB, I agree with what you are saying about being carbohydrate intolerant. Also I think more carbs make us hungrier as well. When I first went gluten free, I lowered my carb intake, and instantly I was not as hungry. But over the last year or so, I have upped my carbs as I have found more things to eat, by eating more gluten-free breads etc, and I find... -
ARCHIVED Any Amount Of Gluten = Same Effect?
Kaycee replied to ar8's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It is hard to say. We are all different. Immediately you might notice a difference or improvement, but then if you are still eating trace amounts of gluten, that difference might dissappear quite quickly and you could be back to how you were before. I dieted once, and removed a big percentage of the gluten, as in bread that I was usually eating and... -
ARCHIVED Reaction Time
Kaycee replied to snomnky's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It takes me a couple of hours for my stomach to know that I have eaten gluten. The diarrhoea doesn't set in till about a day and a half later, unless it is a bad case, and then it is sooner than that. As for the vomit smelling poop, I know when I have been glutened my poop smells terrible, and that is part and parcel of coeliac. Cathy
