Chronic Diarrhea Since October 2019

Sorry if this is a bit long winded and thank you for accepting me to your group!

I have had chronic diarrhea since October 2019. I have had an endoscopy and a gastroscopy and am awaiting the results of 4 x biopsies they took. In the notes, they have said query Caeliac disease, erosive gastritis and intestinal metaplasia ao they also want tests for pancreas. So, I asked my GP if she thought it was caeliac disease and she said I may have a wheat intolerance but we'd await the results.

Symptoms, in addition to chronic diarrhea, are low ferritin levels (anaemia - ferritin levels are 5 and apparently that is low) for which they are now giving me Iron tablets, fatigue, bloating, very smelly gas and rapid weight loss.

Unfortunately, I already have a host of other health issues - diabetes (insulin), 2 heart attacks, cervical cancer (free from cancer for 25 years!!), Fibromyalgia, CFS and peripheral neuropathy. I am in a wheelchair but can walk a few yards around my home with a walking aid. I am, and have for many years, always tired, but this tiredness over the past few months has been a lot worse. I can barely stay awake but I can't sleep a full night because I am up and down literally 6 or 7 times daily to go to the loo!

I am suffering from depression currently because I lost my daughter in November, so when they ask me if I'm depressed, I've been depressed and stressed for3 years because she was so very poorly and has now passed away at only 39.

I really don't feel on top of that I am even capable of changing a diet, or doing anything, but then I'm scared to eat because I spend the next few hours suffering! I also don't know what I can eat, other than fruit and salad, so my diet is very limited and I do need to eat certain things for the diabetes!

Sorry - I know its all very complex but I really would appreciate some advice!

Many thanks

First keep eating gluten daily til all testing is done...celiac requires you to eat 1-2 slices of bread a day for 12 weeks for blood test or 2 weeks for intestinal biopsy.
Go ahead and look at the Newbie 101 section if you will and check out the things about CC and the foods to avoid.

If your just a type 2 diabetic then something like a paleo/keto diet would be in line. I follow this and do well, eggs, bacon, certain brands of sausage, homemade meat loafs, pasta with miracle noodles or palmini pasta, baked chicken, baked fish, homemade pot roast, deviled eggs, soups, etc.
Most keto meals are gluten free, try like maria emmerich, ketogenic girl, and keto summit for ideas. BUT PLEASE talk with a doctor if it would be safe for you to attempt and keep a eye on your glucose.

BTW when starting off remove dairy the villi tips produce the enzymes to break it down and til they heal you most likely will have a intolerance. Oats are another thing some celiacs react to regardless of being gluten free versions. You

Hi Trisha - I just found this thread and wanted to say, I'm sorry you've gone through all of that and I really hope you've gotten some answers from your doctors and are feeling better.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your daughter on top of all the troubles you've had with your health, what a terribly stressful situation to be in. Would love to know how you're doing now :)

I'm not saying this is what you have, but your description reminds me of Morgellons, which are not very well understood. Here is a review from a reputable source. If it seems similar to your experience, you could raise this question with your Dr.  https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/morgellons-disease

Hi Trent, no dairy. Other than good quality butter. I have been lactose free for years. No corn, sugar, even seasonings and spices. I don't eat out. I cook my own food.

@nancydrewandtheceliacclue, are you consuming dairy? Not sure if dairy is part of the carnivore diet.

Hello Russ! Thank you so much for your reply.  I have not had an antibody test done, ever, relating to gluten. Last year I had an allergy test done via blood draw (as my insurance wouldn't cover the skin test) but this was for pollen and grasses, not food. Even on the blood test I had extremely high levels of reactions to each allergen. Could this seasonal allergy inflammation be contributing to my celiac inflammation? I am so careful, there is no way I could ingest gluten. For example, couple of months ago I tried a cough drop that says it was gluten free. I checked ingredients, it seemed fine. But just taking one of those caused me to have nausea, vomiting, and the same extreme abdominal pain. Have you ever heard of anyone else having symptoms like mine after being diagnosed celiac and strictly gluten free? The last episode I had like this was yesterday, after I ate a certified gluten-free coconut macaroon with a little chocolate on it. I have eaten coconut and chocolate before with no issue,  so I didn't see how I could all of a sudden have such a strong response.

The sensitivity of people with coeliac disease varies greatly between individuals. The generally accepted as safe limit for most people is 10 milligrams per day. This equates to a piece of bread the size of a small pea. Some people report that they are more sensitive than this, but others can very occasionally eat a normal gluten containing meal without reacting. I don't think that touching or throwing bread around would lead to you ingesting enough to cause a reaction. There are case reports of farmers with coeliac disease reacting to the dust from gluten-containing animal feed but they were inhaling large amounts of dust over a long period of time in barns. Perhaps you episodes are caused by a reaction to something other than gluten? Have you had your antibody levels checked to see whether you are still being exposed to gluten?
