ARCHIVED Dove Soap
heatherjane replied to GFreeMO's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Dove is a Unilever brand, and from what I've heard, they list gluten grains clearly if they are used. You should be able to just read the label and tell. -
ARCHIVED Nailpolish Remover
heatherjane replied to 123glldd's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I agree with Sylvia. Nail polish remover isn't something I'd worry about, especially if you're washing your hands well. (I'd make sure my hands were washed anyway just because of the chemicals.) -
ARCHIVED Almay Cover Stick
heatherjane replied to 123glldd's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
They're just being overly cautious in their response to avoid being sued; no one can guarantee 100% gluten free. If they say it doesn't have those ingredients in there, then I would feel ok using it. For moisturizer try Desert Essence. A lot of their products are gluten free and say so on the label. I use the Daily Essential Moisturizer, and it virtually... -
ARCHIVED Safe Lip Glosses?
heatherjane replied to christianmom247's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Burt's Bees and Kiss My Face lip glosses...both were gluten free the last time I bought them. Also, Desert Essence Organics lip glosses are gluten free. -
Peanut Butter M&m's...sooo Sick!
heatherjane replied to MitziG's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Here's a recent M&Ms thread with some helpful info. Also, make sure you are checking the label for "May contain wheat". -
ARCHIVED Gluten In Hand Sanitizer?
heatherjane replied to deb445's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
What are the ingredients in the hand sanitizer? ...and what were you munching on? -
Keep in mind that this thread is really old, but you can check their website to see if their salads are gluten free. I think they have a pretty thorough allergen listing the last time I checked. You do need to be careful there, as with any fast food place, since the probability of cross-contamination could be high. For what it's worth...I usually get the...

ARCHIVED Endangered Species Chocolate Bars
heatherjane replied to sunshinen's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I also eat them all the time without issues. -
I haven't used it, but are you sure the reaction is from the lip gloss, or could you have an issue with another ingredient in it? I know those are obvious questions, but just thought I'd ask.

ARCHIVED Medications
heatherjane replied to tbrittain's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've noticed lately that Target and Meijer have been listing on the packaging of their store brand OTC meds if a product is gluten free. -
ARCHIVED Haircare Products
heatherjane replied to readergirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've seen wheat listed in some of the Yes to Carrots hair products, so make sure you check the label, if that's a concern. -
ARCHIVED Haircare Products
heatherjane replied to readergirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Shikai for my color-treated hair. They have a 'poo for each shade: reds, brunettes, & blondes. I'm not sure if all of their products are gluten free (check the labels), but the products for color-treated hair are ok as far as I can tell. -
ARCHIVED New! And Need Some Tips!
heatherjane replied to SwtRandi's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Certified gluten Free oats are generally considered safe, but they must be certified gluten free. Even then, a lot of celiacs can't tolerate oats at all. In my opinion, it's best to avoid them, especially in the beginning. In regard to your salad dressing question, Kraft will clearly disclose gluten ingredients on their labels. And FYI, I prefer... -
ARCHIVED Glulten & Soy Free Skin Care & Make-Up
heatherjane replied to KittylovesGeezer's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Try Desert Essence, too. I can't say enough good things about them. They clearly list on the package whether a product is gluten free. I don't have soy issues, so I don't routinely check for it, but I don't recall seeing soy in the labeling. You would have to check. They have all their ingredients listed online, and their products are pretty decently priced... -
ARCHIVED Hershey's
heatherjane replied to Lisa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I celebrated by eating a Peppermint Pattie. -
ARCHIVED How Much Gluten Will Affect Blood Test
heatherjane replied to 1974girl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If she was just diagnosed in December, don't be suprised if her levels are still elevated some. I've been on this diet for 3 years and am very strict, but I am just getting to the point where my bloodwork is almost normal. I can't speak to how much gluten it takes to elevate the antibodies (someone else may know), but the key is to be as diligent as possible... -
ARCHIVED Need Chick-fil-a Fries Feedback
heatherjane replied to tfrankenberger's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I posted on this thread back in '09 and can say that I've recently had the waffle fries again, but this time with no issues. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free On A Date
heatherjane replied to simwalrus64's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree with what the others have said. I am single and have learned over the past few years that if a guy is truly worthy of your respect and is good relationship material, that he will do what he can to accomodate. You would do right by the guy to give him a heads-up at least. How he reacts will indicate what kind of person he is. -
ARCHIVED Allergy Symptoms After Inhaling Breadcrumbs
heatherjane replied to SGRhapsodos's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Anything is possible with celiac, but my guess is that there's something else you're breathing in. Dust and mold wreak havoc on me. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free And Sls Free Face Wash
heatherjane replied to TLK879's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Try Desert Essence. I love their stuff, and the gluten free items are clearly marked (including the face wash, which is also SLS free). I have acne issues, too, and their Throughly Clean face wash works well for me. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Allergy Symptoms After Inhaling Breadcrumbs
heatherjane replied to SGRhapsodos's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Do you mean you're only having respiratory symptoms in this one instance? Do you usually have GI distress with gluten? My immediate thought is that your nasal allergy symptoms are not from the bread crumbs, unless you have a true wheat allergy, which is different from celiac. -
The trick to restaurants is to plan ahead. You have to do some kind of research before you go: check online for gluten free menus, email or call the manager on off-hours and ask about their prep practices, go to places that have proven themselves trustworthy with other celiacs. If researching ahead of time isn't possible, you need to be willing to ask questions...

ARCHIVED What Are Some Kid-Friendly Substitutes For
heatherjane replied to Blessedby3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yeah, you really can't go into "fake" cheese expecting it to taste exactly like the real thing. It's an acquired taste. -
ARCHIVED What Are Some Kid-Friendly Substitutes For
heatherjane replied to Blessedby3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Daiya makes gluten free vegan cheese, so there's no dairy whatsoever in it. I'm not sure about the kid-friendly, but it may be worth a shot. It tastes pretty good to me. I was going to suggest using crushed gluten free cereal (like chex) for the panko substitute, but I see you already thought of that.
