Stomachache Today

Good morning everyone! I woke up with a horrible stomachache this morning. I'm eating gluten and have been eating gluten for a couple of months, but I've been eating more because I finally scheduled tests for the 29th. Terrible stomachache this morning. It's still hurting. I wish the two weeks would go by! Ugh...

There's a part of me that will be happy if the tests come back positive. I guess I'll feel vindicated...you know, that I was able to identify what the problem is and hopeful that getting rid of gluten will alleviate many of my symptoms. But what if it doesn't? What if getting rid of gluten doesn't help? Has anyone else ever had this worry?

I guess I'd like to know that this is the answer and that I can control it through my diet. I hope this is the answer.

Two weeks is a long time. Hang tough, it will be over soon. Even if the tests come back negative, you can try a gluten-free diet to see if you feel better. The tests don't always tell the truth, as many on the board can affirm. Just hold on to the hope of a healthy life!

I understand your fear that stopping the gluten may not be the lifesaver you are hoping for. I feared the same thing when I was first diagnosed 8 months ago. In my case, my road to recovery has been long and harder than what it seems most others experience, but I have recovered from some of my gastro symptoms and I'm sure you'll probably be like most Celiacs and recover almost right away from most of your symptoms, too. I think mine is an unusual case. Just don't get discouraged if you don't see huge improvements right away. You'll probably see some things change immeadiately and other things maybe even worsen for a while, but after a few months on the diet you'll see everything start to get more normal again, and should be feeling better. Hang in there and good luck!

Hey, could be worse, you could be getting tested on May 17th, like I am. I still got a month of eating yummy food that hopefully makes me suffer.. ugh.

But, I totally understand your fear too. I tried to go gluten free without much luck, though might have messed it up.. so getting tested to know for sure, but am a little scared it will say I don't have celiac disease.. and after going to doctors for about 10 years and running into dead ends, really don't need another.

So, lets both hope we have this! LOL =)

      I'm not saying this is what you have, but your description reminds me of Morgellons, which are not very well understood. Here is a review from a reputable source.       Hi Trent, no dairy. Other than good quality butter. I have been lactose free for years. No corn, sugar, even seasonings and spices. I don't eat out. I cook my own food.

      @nancydrewandtheceliacclue, are you consuming dairy? Not sure if dairy is part of the carnivore diet.

      Hello Russ! Thank you so much for your reply.  I have not had an antibody test done, ever, relating to gluten. Last year I had an allergy test done via blood draw (as my insurance wouldn't cover the skin test) but this was for pollen and grasses, not food. Even on the blood test I had extremely high levels of reactions to each allergen. Could this seasonal allergy inflammation be contributing to my celiac inflammation? I am so careful, there is no way I could ingest gluten. For example, couple of months ago I tried a cough drop that says it was gluten free. I checked ingredients, it seemed fine. But just taking one of those caused me to have nausea, vomiting, and the same extreme abdominal pain. Have you ever heard of anyone else having symptoms like mine after being diagnosed celiac and strictly gluten free? The last episode I had like this was yesterday, after I ate a certified gluten-free coconut macaroon with a little chocolate on it. I have eaten coconut and chocolate before with no issue,  so I didn't see how I could all of a sudden have such a strong response.

      The sensitivity of people with coeliac disease varies greatly between individuals. The generally accepted as safe limit for most people is 10 milligrams per day. This equates to a piece of bread the size of a small pea. Some people report that they are more sensitive than this, but others can very occasionally eat a normal gluten containing meal without reacting. I don't think that touching or throwing bread around would lead to you ingesting enough to cause a reaction. There are case reports of farmers with coeliac disease reacting to the dust from gluten-containing animal feed but they were inhaling large amounts of dust over a long period of time in barns. Perhaps you episodes are caused by a reaction to something other than gluten? Have you had your antibody levels checked to see whether you are still being exposed to gluten?
