Hashimoto's Go Away Please...

Hello all, brand new and wanted to find out if anyone has done what I am trying. Two months ago I started having symptoms of Hypothyroiditis, but didn't know it. (I.E. Constipation, mood swings, forgetfulness, fatigue etc.) I went to a nutritionist who told me to have my doctor order tests for Thyroid Antibodies. Well my sister was diagnosed with Thyroid problems twenty years ago at the age of 10. So I figured is was a good possiblility. So I went to my doctor and had her also run test for celiac disease since my Maternal Grandfather had it, my maternal Aunt has it as well as her daughter and two grandchildren. My mom has never been checked and neither have any of my siblings or me.

Well tests came back positive for Hashimoto's and IgG antibodies were the only thing on the celiac disease test that came back positive so I ordered the tests from Enterlabs...am still waiting on results. However I put my self on a gluten-free diet since then.

My doctor who is a personal friend, thus very easy to work with said I needed to go on Thyroid Hormone Replacement...I had previously given her information about thyroid being linked to celiac disease and that it could correct itself on a gluten-free diet. She is willing to allow me to try this which I am doing and symptoms of Hashimoto's are going away.

Here is my question...Has anyone else tried this and been successful. I would rather change me diet than go on a pill for the rest of my life. I have read other posts where a person's thyroid med's were lowered once gluten-free but has anyone else never gone on the thyroid med's and only changed there to diet gluten-free to correct Hashimoto's?

Thanks,

Hey there...just thought I would let you in on what we have found in our family. My mother, sister, as well as previous family members on my mom's side and myself all have Hashimoto's. My oldest daughter also has Thyroid fluctuation which the doctors believe to be the beginning of Hashimoto's...although I intend on stopping that before it gets to the medication level. My mother is on Levoxyl and has recently had her blood drawn for the TSH and she had to lower her Levoxyl by a quarter it was before. She has been gluten-free since January and she is doing well. I haven't had to lower my dose of Levoxyl yet, but I have had to lower my Zoloft. I don't know if this helps, but I am hopeful as well to someday get off all my pills (Levoxyl - Hashimoto, Amatriptaline - Migraines, Zoloft - Depression). Someday I may be pill free and that would be fine with me.

Good luck I hope all works out for you....

Kelly :)

Yes, wheat is common in most soy sauces now because it speeds up the fermenting process.

For 16 years I have relied on the website glutenfreedrugs.com to determine if a pharmaceutical is gluten-free. The website has been down for at least a week. Does anyone have any information about this outage, the status of the website founder and maintainer pharmacist Steven A. Plogsted or a phone number? I did not get a response for my email to glutenfreedrugs@gmail.com in October of 2022. Steven did respond to my emails in 2012. Thanks.

Sounds like you are in the UK. With blood numbers that high, I thought docs in UK would give an official diagnosis without the biopsy. You should ask about that, so you can get support faster.  I'd try to find and print out anything that supports that in your country, get another appointment and take all of it with you. Even in the US now, some docs are doing this, my 19 year old step granddaughter got an official diagnosis here in US with just blood results a few months ago.

Is soy sauce in Korea also made from wheat like it usually is in US? I'd be concerned that even if asking about gluten, they would not be aware of or think of some like that.

That's a good idea. It can at least establish the potential for developing celiac disease and can help people decided between a celiac diagnosis and NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity). And it doesn't require a gluten challenge and can be had without a doctor's prescription.
