Gluten Problem

First I am new to this board and been reading a little bit. My spelling isn't all that great but that's okay.

I have always eaten bread and gluten items and no problem at all. About 4-5 years ago I would get this really odd pain in my stomach (not lower int but my stomach) and it would kill me. It didn't happen very often until about two years ago. I would get this horrible stomach pain (it was like someone was stabbing my stomach and felt a tightness from my throat and down) I went to the ED told me to take a pain killer and I'll be okay. The pain was so bad I could not sleep. I had gas (and I have been a gassy person all my life) and everytime I had to pass gas it felt better for a little while.

Okay I'll make it short it happend again went to my doctor and I told him that it happen when I eat bread items. He gave me Nexuim which I guess it helped but it gave me ismonia and BM problems. NOTE:I hate taking pills everyday unless it is a vitiam.

My stomach hurts so bad I have called in work and could not eat anything at all. It doesn't happen all the time either it just when it wants to. Now I can not eat a bagel at all or cereal at all because it gives me instance stomach problems (SP).

the other day I went and had a sandwich and I knew with in the first 3 bites I would have SP and sure enough I did. This time I notice I was really gassy and then the next day I had BM problems.

Could this be a gluten problem? I am going to the GI in a couple of weeks b/c I am tired of it. If I can take something out of my diet that's fine.

It sure sounds like you have a problem with gluten. Unfortunately, if you have stopped eating it, and your GI orders testing for celiac disease, you will be guaranteed false negative results, even if you have celiac disease.

You have two options: Eat gluten foods again until you see the GI and be sick, or stop eating them, but not bother getting tested.

You can still get tested by Open Original Shared Link while on a gluten-free diet (it will be accurate for about a year after going gluten-free). But they can't officially diagnose celiac disease (because they don't do biopsies, which are unfortunately still considered the gold standard for a celiac disease diagnosis), just gluten intolerance. Which is fine, because the treatment is exactly the same, which is a gluten-free diet.

Trying the diet is still the best and most accurate test of them all. If you get sick eating gluten, but feel better without it, you should obviously not eat it. It's as simple as that.

Thank-you I ate a little bit of pita bread last night and I was gassy. I am slowly going to try and elimate gluten foods. One good thing I'll just tell my husband I have to go on the diet "on doctors orders" (even if the DR says yes or no) . I am still unsure about the test and I am not convienced that it is 100% accurate.

I am happy I have found this board it is very informational. I learned yesterday about nighshade veggies which was very cool.

I love food

I really do not want to do this. It hurts so much sometimes I cry and I don't cry over pain.

Definitely worth speaking to your gastroenterologist about this. My own told me that by using Gaviscon a barrier forms over the contents of the stomach and stops gas and acid irritating the throat.  In fact, he said to me that because I found relief using Gaviscon that was a very clear indicator that reflux was the cause of that particular issue.   A wedge pillow will really help with this - or raising the top bed legs with bricks.

I did get the pneumonia vaccine about 4 years ago. I had this amazing allergist who did all those vitamin deficiencies test and told to get that vaccine. Unfortunately she retired.  I haven’t been to an allergist in a few years,  I’m not sure what my levels are now. I did have a pulmonologist who wasn’t concern and said I seemed fine to him that I was young etc. But yes I think I should at the very least get a different opinion. Thank you for your reply

Yes I do have acid reflux. I’m not on anything for it at the moment. I sometimes wonder if that’s what it could be because I get heart burn every night. I may revisit my gastrointestinal doctor again. Thanks for the reply

Hi @HelloFlowersGoodbyeFlour I wonder if you suffer from reflux, as if you do, you may find it could also be irritating your airways.  I shall explain: I have to use a blue inhaler from time to time, and it seems to be related to reflux.  Never had any trouble before my coeliac diagnosis, the reflux seemed to be something that developed following a holiday to France in 2019, where I had been exposed to gluten.    The reflux continued into the autumn and winter, my throat itched to begin with, particularly after meals, but it then that feeling of irritation seemed to spread to my lungs.  I even found it difficult to breathe on occasion. What stopped it in its tracks was using a wedge pillow at night, following a reflux diet (you can find them online), not eating 2-4 hours before bed and also having a dose of Gaviscon Advanced at night, which forms a barrier so that acid/food can't go back up your esophagus.  The throat irritation faded, and then I found it easier to breathe again. Just mentioning in case it could be a contributing factor.

Since initially getting your D checked a few years ago, has it since rebounded to normal levels? Sounds like at some point you got it checked again.
