Abnormal Ttg, But Normal Iga- Is That Common?

Recommended Posts

Last week my rheum ran the TTG test and it came back positive at 38 (normal <20). Then I had an appt with my GI Dr and he ran something called an immunoglobulin (IGA) test and that came back totally normal.

I have my biopsy next Tuesday at 7am, but wondering why the IGA test would be normal since the other was positive for celiac?

Anyone know?

My iron was pretty bad- 44 and my ferritin was only 4!

Thanks as usual :)

Positive TTG IGA blood test 8/13/10

Endoscopy confirmed 8/31/10

Started gluten-free diet 9/1/10

If it was total IgA, it's just a test for whether your immune system makes normal amounts of IgA. Low total IgA would be a risk factor, but plenty of celiacs have normal total IgA.

If it was some other test like anti-gliadin IgA it could just be a false negative.
