Gluten Challenge

Hello :)

I'm wondering if any of your children had to do the gluten challenge, and if so how long did you do it and did you get positive results. I'm very worried about my daughter. She did the gluten challenge and got to 7 weeks plan, she has been a bucket of sick since starting, was to get to 12 but she caught a cold and it hit her so bad that she ended up in the ER with breathing difficulties so I took her in the next to get her blood tests. I figured we could go in and get a referral even if the results are negative.

I'm terrified I made a mistake by not waiting longer. We did the bloodwork on Monday and still haven't heard from the doctors. I am trying not to panic but there is something going on with my kid and I want answers. I'm not feeling very patient.

thanks for listening

I have heard of one occasion of someone getting positive blood test after only being able to put up with 6 weeks of the challenge. SO there is hope she might get by on this....regardless if that sick I would hope any sane doctor would put a positive dia. on paper...like really look how bad and obvious the reaction is.....wish you luck and praying for you.

Thank you so much for your prayers. I've been in tears a lot seeing my daughter struggle. ?

@trents first response: can you direct me to that particular section of this site for NCGS or and are there any groups I can join for people with NCGS? second response: I can’t really remember due to it was some or a few years back but I believe she did blood tests or work on me or I think she did a glucose test on me.

There is not a distinct section in this particular online resource and community devoted to those with NCGS. And I cannot say with any certainty whether or not such a thing exists elsewhere online. But your question makes me think celiac.com might entertain the idea of starting a forum within our community for that purpose. I should explain that celiac.com is divided into a number of separate forums, each devoted to a different topic or concern within the gluten intolerant/gluten sensitive population. Having said that, the main is on those with celiac disease (or their support systems) rather than those with NCGS because it has more serious long-term health implications. I see. Can you elaborate on how you were tested to arrive at this diagnosis?

@trents not exactly sure my doctor told me I’m NCGS and I need to start a gluten free diet and I believe I can’t consume anything with wheat she diagnosed me a few years back but I thought she said I had celiac but when I had my physical recently back in February of this year to be exact I asked again and she said I had gluten sensitivity or NCGS and not celiac

@trents one more question is there a site or forum like this site strictly for NCGS people? Or is this the only one just asking out of curiosity.

@Healthierbody2026, how sensitive to minor amounts of gluten are you? Do you react to cross contamination exposures or just to larger exposures, like when wheat, barley or rye (or their derivatives) are listed as an ingredient? Do have a read on this yet?
