Hello Christtheking,

Thank you for your post. I haven't used Enterolab but am seriously considering it. I've been through the gamut of tests including a colonoscopy, fluoroscopy. blood tests, etc. to rule out everything but IBS. My celiac blood tests came back normal, but I feel that I have either gluten sensitivity or celiac disease.

My husband won't be thrilled about paying for the lab fees at Enterolab, but I think he'll be willing to do it - I'm just afraid they'll also come back negative.

Peace to you and keep me posted on your progress,

New Yrs BB

Dear New Yrs BB,

Get the test. Tell your husband that insurance will cover it. Usually they will because preventative measures are always better for them. i.e. they discover your disease so they will not have to shell out thousands later because it went undiagnosed. Get the test and call your insurance to see it they will cover it. Usually they will.

1. Is it helpful to be partially gluten-free but not 100% to gain benefit or is this an all or nothing diet?

2. How long should it take to feel 100% back to normal.

3. Can any one recommend a good book on how to be 100% gluten-free?

4. Remember please share your experiences with Enterolab. Personally I

New YrsBB---Spend the money and go with Enterolab.....I did and it was the best money I have spent medically. I had a blood test at the doctor's office that came back negative/with a phone call from the nurse!!! Enterolab sent me the test, I did exactly as they asked, sent it back overnight express, and had my results in less than two weeks (they say 3-4). The results come via email and are comprehensive and complete enough for me. I tested gluten and casein intolerant. I bought the complete test with gene testing too. As I have a granddaughter that has celiac disease and this is quite heriditary, we wondered where she got it......it was me. I now eat gluten-free/cf exclusively, it is a way of life for me. I had a kind of jump up on things as I have been cooking and baking for her for five of her six years of life. You should see her, she is amazing. Get Betty Hagman's cookbook, it is the best one. Best wishes,

Barbara

Definitely worth speaking to your gastroenterologist about this. My own told me that by using Gaviscon a barrier forms over the contents of the stomach and stops gas and acid irritating the throat.  In fact, he said to me that because I found relief using Gaviscon that was a very clear indicator that reflux was the cause of that particular issue.   A wedge pillow will really help with this - or raising the top bed legs with bricks.

I did get the pneumonia vaccine about 4 years ago. I had this amazing allergist who did all those vitamin deficiencies test and told to get that vaccine. Unfortunately she retired.  I haven’t been to an allergist in a few years,  I’m not sure what my levels are now. I did have a pulmonologist who wasn’t concern and said I seemed fine to him that I was young etc. But yes I think I should at the very least get a different opinion. Thank you for your reply

Yes I do have acid reflux. I’m not on anything for it at the moment. I sometimes wonder if that’s what it could be because I get heart burn every night. I may revisit my gastrointestinal doctor again. Thanks for the reply

Hi @HelloFlowersGoodbyeFlour I wonder if you suffer from reflux, as if you do, you may find it could also be irritating your airways.  I shall explain: I have to use a blue inhaler from time to time, and it seems to be related to reflux.  Never had any trouble before my coeliac diagnosis, the reflux seemed to be something that developed following a holiday to France in 2019, where I had been exposed to gluten.    The reflux continued into the autumn and winter, my throat itched to begin with, particularly after meals, but it then that feeling of irritation seemed to spread to my lungs.  I even found it difficult to breathe on occasion. What stopped it in its tracks was using a wedge pillow at night, following a reflux diet (you can find them online), not eating 2-4 hours before bed and also having a dose of Gaviscon Advanced at night, which forms a barrier so that acid/food can't go back up your esophagus.  The throat irritation faded, and then I found it easier to breathe again. Just mentioning in case it could be a contributing factor.

Since initially getting your D checked a few years ago, has it since rebounded to normal levels? Sounds like at some point you got it checked again.
