Is There Such A Thing As Gluten-free Hairspray?

Recommended Posts

Help! I have been trying in vain to locate gluten-free hairspray and styling products. I have recently been diagnosed with celiac and I believe that I have DH as well. I have gone from product to product with no luck. I have found gluten-free shampoo and conditioner and I really need something to plump my hair up as it is so fine. I have found SAMY alcohol-free mousse which I believe is gluten-free but have not had any luck with hairspray. I was told by the owner of my local health food store that most alcohol that is contained in personal care products is grain based and is most often wheat. Also, vitamin E that is used in body washes, lotions and hair products is most often wheat germ. That makes sense to me as there are so many products that I have used that have vitamin E that make me itch, itch, itch.

Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Joie

Dove will clearly label wheat, oats, barley, and rye, and their hairspray is gluten-free--I've been using it for a year or so. Their shampoos, conditioners, and most, if not all, their styling products are gluten-free, too.

I believe Garnier Fructis' hairspray is gluten-free, too--I used it a year or so ago and it was then, so I'm assuming it's still safe, but double-check.

I use Pantene hairspray and hair care products. The hairspray appears to be fine. I use the humidity formula since it leaves my hair the softest. I've used a couple different formulas of theirs without a problem. You need to read the labels. I believe they have a conditioner with gluten in it, but the majority of their formulas are safe.

I, too, use Dove mousse and hairspray without problems. I have very curly hair and the mousse seems to tame it quite well. The hairspray also works great...I use it to control wispies during performances and it holds even when I'm sweating under those hot stage lights.
