Lost Sense Of Smell

Janessa

Recommended Posts

Janessa Rookie

I've been gluten free since last June and feeling great but the last several days I have lost most of my sense of smell and everything I eat either tastes weird or like nothing at all. I have also been very fatigued the last couple of days and having dizzy spells.

It doesn't feel like I got glutened, that has happened several times so I know what that feels like and I have never lost my smell before. I am not congested at all but took a decongestant anyway but it didn't help at all.

Has anyone experienced anything like this?

I would talk to your doctor about it. Sometime similar happened to a coworker who had developed nasal polyps, but it didn't come on suddenly, so I don't mean to imply it is the same thing. (The lack of smell, though, probably explains the flat tastes.) Combined with the dizziness, however, it strikes me as being worthy of a trip to the doctor, out of concern for neurologic issues.

I just realized today that I don't have much of a sense of smell. I can't even remember when I lost it. It is interesting to read these posts. I can smell strong odors, but I recall being able to smell very well when I was younger.

Hi Scott, yes I have had symptoms for years and this is the second GI I have seen and he could not believe I have never been tested. He called later today and I am scheduled for an endoscopy. Is there a way to tell how severe my potential celiac is from the results above? What are the chances I will have the biopsy and come back negative and we have to keep searching for a cause?

I agree christina, there is definitely many contributing factors! I have the pain today, my pelvis, hips and thighs ache! No idea why. But i have been sitting at work for 3 days so im thinking its my back. This disease is very mysterious (and frustrating) but not always to blame for every pain.

"her stool study showed she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that." The wording of this part of the sentence does not make any sense at all. I don't mean to insult you, but is English your first language? This part of the sentence sounds like it was generated by translation software.

What kind of stool test was done? Can you be more specific?

Perhaps I should also have said that in addition to showing a very high response to gluten, her stool study showed that she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that.
