Biocard Celiac Home Testing

I have seen quite a few Biocard Celiac Home Testing posts but I don't think I have seen one that says there was a positive test result for Celiac. How accurate is this test?

Has anyone had a positive result?

IMHO its a waste of $. Even if you were to have a positive, if you took it to your doc, they would still want to run the full panel. Its not a celiac test, its a cursory screen. Nobody is going to dx you as celiac based on it.

If I knew that there have been some positive results I would try it on my 90 year old mother. She has a lot of the symptoms but we don't really want to put her through all the testing at her age. So if it really can produce a positive result then it would confirm which side of the family we have inherited Celiac and then we could try my mom on a gluten-free diet to try to improve her last years of life. I hate to see her suffer. :(

You could always try the diet without any testing, and see if it helps her, or would she be resistant?

The rest of my family don't think we should change her diet at her age - she loves bread and sweets. I think if she started feeling better as fast as I did she would be okay with it. If I had a test that proved she had an intolerance then I would maybe have them on my side. I may ask her to try cutting out some things even for a couple of days. In 2 days my son & I both felt a big difference so hopefully she would too. If she didn't feel a change in a couple of days I wouldn't push her.

I just read over this thread to date and there seems to be some misunderstanding about it. I have advised people who have gotten positive tTG home test results. It tests for celiac disease - not gluten sensitivity so positive results will be less frequent than some of the less specific tests out there. It will also miss a small percentage of celiacs who are IgA deficient (about 4%). However, when positive, there is little doubt that the patient has celiac disease. Since it just uses a finger prick blood dot, it may be an ideal test for someone who is elderly, frail, and looking only for celiac disease. It is absolutely the most convenient and least invasive test available. If you watch the 5 minute video on their website ( Open Original Shared Link ) you will know more about it than most of the nurses that administered this test in a fairly large population screening test of pre-schoolers in Hungary.

No test is perfect. Even endoscopic biopsies can produce erroneous results but this is a very specific, quite sensitive test for celiac disease.

      Trying to read my lab results

      Hi Scott, yes I have had symptoms for years and this is the second GI I have seen and he could not believe I have never been tested. He called later today and I am scheduled for an endoscopy. Is there a way to tell how severe my potential celiac is from the results above? What are the chances I will have the biopsy and come back negative and we have to keep...

      Constant low back, abdominal and pelvic pain!

      I agree christina, there is definitely many contributing factors! I have the pain today, my pelvis, hips and thighs ache! No idea why. But i have been sitting at work for 3 days so im thinking its my back. This disease is very mysterious (and frustrating) but not always to blame for every pain.
