Constant Hunger Pains?

Recommended Posts

For months I have been feeling hungry all the time. Sometimes even while I am eating my stomach will growl... and sometimes even when I am bloated and FULL. It is not just the growling, it's like you can feel the hunger. But it wasn't painful, just ... HUNGRY.

Then 2 days ago I had a colonoscopy. While I was prepping, my hunger pains were strong. Much stronger than normal, still not painful though. I just assumed it was because my stomach was empty. It stayed with me the morning of the procedure as well, of course.

But that was Wednesday. Today is Friday. The pangs are stronger than ever and I have been eating like a pig! The hunger pangs start about 20 minutes after I eat. Last night it was almost intolerable while I was trying to fall asleep! I woke up this morning and it was just unbearable. I don't normally eat breakfast but I fixed me something to eat anyway and scarfed it down. It helped, but I can feel it starting up again.

Is this normal after a colonoscopy??

I googled and "peptic ulcer" kept coming up... but I had an endoscopy the same day as my colonoscopy and my dr didn't find an ulcer!

Anyone else experience anything similar?

Yes, I used to get ravenously hungry, especially after eating a high-gluten meal. After going gluten free, this has dropped off, but I still get it if I get glutened. On those days, I just can't fill up.

One thing for me...sometimes I was hungry--felt like I was starving on a more mental level--and sometimes it was also more physical, like you said, with the stomach growling. I figured out it wasn't necessarily hunger pains but gas pains--the sort that turn into nonstop burping. You may try something to eliminate gas next time this happens.

When I first went gluten free, for about 2 months, there was not enough food in California to satisfy me. I was hungry as soon as I put my fork down. After two months, appetite became normal. My son who is 9 has been gluten free since October, and his seems to be getting worse. He is always, always hungry. I need another job to pay for groceries! LOL

Gluten free is not so bad! If you are new, hang it there, it gets easier!
