  4. Bump! Going to the Windy City in July.. surely there are some more places??
  5. what do you know about chocolate alkali? Is it safe? When I first went gluten free and researched it some old information said ketchup, vanilla, some alcohol wasn't safe... is this the same for chocolate alkali? That perhaps it was thought not to be safe - but is it? I've been known to eat my fair share of it and never had a problem, but some just told...
  6. so this is a "twofer" posting... a comment and a question. We went to The Melting Pot for Mother's DAy, and it was FAB!! I had emailed ahead and was assured they would take good care of me, and they sure did. Everything was discussed ahead of time, changes made for me (like sub a different meat for a teryaki marinated meat) and the food was great. It...
  7. Hi.. I'm from Ann Arbor too! Just wanted to say hi! I've been doing this for 3.5 years now, it gets so much easier and it is SO worth it! The Ann Arbor group is having a gluten free meal at a local restaurant in June, if you're interseted in hearing more abut Ann Arbor's events be sure to join our local group "glutenfreeannabor" on Yahoo.
  8. I go to the AnnArbor/Ypsi, MI, RR and *LOVE* it (in fact, going Friday and looking forward to it!), but yes I LOVE LOVE LOVE gulio's!! My favorite place to go, hands down.
  9. Use your favorite mac n cheese, I do all the time with Glutino pasta. If my recipe calls for flour to thicken the sauce I just use rice flour.
  10. I just posted this under "dining out" (for lack of a better place to put it): hope this helps Open Original Shared Link I have recently started working for UM Housing, imagine my surprise and delight to come across such a comprehensive list of allergy free foods. The gluten-free list is several pages long, and apparently gluten-free pizza is always...

The gluten-free list is several pages long, and apparently gluten-free pizza is always available - you just have to ask and they will "whip one up for you". Now you only have to...
  13. My test results were all "normal". My dr. told me that if eating gluten free made me feel better, I should do it! He made the analogy of if it hurts when you shut your hand in the car door, do you need a test to tell you that you should stop doing that? Made sense to me!
  14. What about breakfast for dinner? Omlette and hashbrowns? Can you search for gluten-free restaurants in the areas you travel?
  15. I like the L'Oreal Color Vive line... and yes, you're worth it!
  16. When I was pregnant, my dr. told me to put a good movie on tv, eat a *giant* bowl of popcorn with lots and lots of water to drink - works every time for me.
  17. Good questions! I have some friends who are very aware of what I can or can't have, and go to extreme measures for me. I have other friends whom, while I'm sure they love me it just doesn't seem worth the effort to go over and over it. I eat where I feel safe, otherwise I bring food, or more then once I've been known to eat dinner before I go out and...
  18. After a fun filled (NOT) day of travel with my entire family, we found ourselves at a WF. I looked all over for something safe (but the Amy's in the microwave never occured to me). I asked at the sandwich bar and the woman working was super helpful, she let me make any sandwhich I wanted and put it on big lettuce leaves. I had her put extra paper down...
  19. I've been gluten-free for three years now and I still have those dreams!! Not as often as at first, and sometimes in my dreams I know I can't eat the food and have to find safe food, but yes there are times when I wake up mad/upset thinking I ate something I shouldn't have. Or worse - when I realize I can't have that stuffed crust Pizza Hut pizza... sigh...

  22. Last time I was at my TJ (in Michigan) I found gluten-free Tirimisu and Chocolate Torte!! They are in the desert freezer section. I bought one of each and they are waiting for the perfect moment... anyone want to come over for desert???
  23. We flew into Sarasota and stopped at a Friendly's near the airport. They lived up to their name - very Friendly! The waitress asked the cook about the mashed potatoes and he brought out the box so I could read the label. I ended up going with a bunless burger and it was very good, and the sundae that followed was tasty too. We also ate at a Bennigan's...
