Hi

I was just over at the delpi Celiac boards and was told I'm wasting my time doing the gluten-free diet without getting the blood tests?

from what I have read here many ppl have had negitive results with the blood tests only to find they get better going glutten free.

I shopped today and started the diet this morning...if I do decide to get the blood tests how many days before hand should I start eating glutten again to get the correct results??

also..could someone PLEASE tell me if tums are safe to eat? my belly is burning

thank you very much!!

Betty

You should be eating three to four slices of bread (or the equivalent) for three months straight before blood tests. The reason they're saying it's a waste of time is because, if you want to get the blood test, it's going to take you three months of going back on gluten to do it.

I dont know who told you that you could just eat some bread one day before...thats WRONG! Like Tiffany said....its 3 months of gluten before testing if you want accurate results....not that there arent false negatives anyway but you'll definately be negative if you eat it only one day prior.

You couldnt see your post because it hadnt been "pinned" by a moderator yet. Once its pinned you can see it. You can see it before its pinned in "todays active posts" which is a link near the bottom of the main page. :)

I did wonder this, but can't find very much about it. I can just avoid gluten free bread that looks like it has powder on the top, but if it does that to my lips I am just worried if it's upsetting my tummy too.

Could it be something (some additive or other) they added to the rice flour to make it easier to work with or cook?

My lips actually have an allergic reaction.  Apparently it's rice flour ontop of the bread, but I don't have a problem with rice. I can't have gluten

@gurgi I would look at the ingredients and go through that list to see if an allergic reaction is possible. Regarding m and s soft rolls: I did a search on the ingredients of the gluten free version. It has added B vitamins (b2, b5, and b6). I also see that niacin (b3) was added. Sometimes when people take b3 or, really, too much of it, they get a flush. Again, go through the ingredients, try to figure out what constitutes that powder on the tops of the breads, and see if it could be causing a reaction.

@lydialoo, Tell me about your high dose Thiamine routine. What kind of Thiamine are you taking?  How much (mg) are you taking?  When do you take it? Are you taking a B Complex?   Are you taking Magnesium?
