Weight-loss help needed

Hi,

I was diagnosed as celiac around a year ago and since that time I've steadily put on weight. I decided to look up various gluten free diets to see if there were any changes I could make just to try and get a little healthier. The problem is all the diets I'm finding seem to use other things that I'm also allergic to as nearly every meal either contains avocado or banana as their base ingredients. (I have a latex allergy so have a problem with the proteins that are found in these and other foods like them)

Does anyone have any ideas on what I could use in their place or have encountered a diet that doesn't centre around avocado? I'm really at a loss and I don't want to pay for an appointment with a dietitian unless I absolutely have to.

If I need to lose weight, I don't do avocados as they have lots of calories. Good fats though, but I love them and want to eat a whole one.

What works for me when I need to lose is to eat Whole Foods such as fruits, veggies and fresh meats and eggs. Go easy on things like rice and dairy, if you can tolerate them. Drink lots of fresh water and make sure to take your vitamins. I usually count my calories as that's always worked for me. Otherwise I eat too much to lose. My body generally loves the weight I'm at right now so it takes effort to lose.

I have not tried to lose weight since high school....but back then celiac disease made me sleep almost all day....anyway I had a bit of luck with the cabbage soup diet back then. Was make a huge put of cabbage soup. you eat this daily for lunch and dinner. Breakfast you changed it up each day. The diet had this odd perculiers. The base soup was 2 cloves of garlic, 1/2 a onion 2 bell peppers,  sauteed in the bottom of the pot then like 6-8 cups of water 1-2 heads of chopped cabbage, 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes and some other stuff. I know the diet was odd like NO fruit that week except on day 3.....you no tomatoes til day 4 which you then added them to the pot. I know no meat til at like the last 3 days of the diet one day your allowed chicken breast, and another white fish. Was a really odd diet the goal was to reset your metabolism with food changes. It worked great I recall dropping a average 5lbs each time I tried it.......Hindsight, gluten made me put on weight, on this diet there was NO GLUTEN...so I think that is why it did so well back then.

I have the opposite problem now - trying to gain weight. However, approx. 10 years ago I was a bit overweight and was trying to lose weight. What worked for me was a low carb, no sugar, high protein, high fat diet. The 'brand name' was Atkins diet, but I think it's not that important. The principle is important, though: if you consume no sugar and almost no carbs, your body has no other choice than use stored fat for energy - there is a metabolic switch.

Basically, I was eating meat (chicken, turkey, fish, pork, beef, ham, bacon); vegetables (lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, radish, onion, garlic, steamed vegetables: peas, carrots, cauliflower etc.); cheese (mozzarella, cheddar, etc.); fats (olive oil, butter); eggs, nuts, olives and so on.

Note: I lost a lot of weight fast. However, the diet is very strict, in my opinion.

Hello linzk8! I would suggest you to go with natural foods as you are allergic to latex. One of my friends had the same problem. She also had latex allergic. She used Indian nuts to lose weight purchased from the official site of Nuez Dela India and achieved a success. You can also check the same. Eating at the right time is also important. Avoid eating very late at night. It's fine to eat in between meals, but limit your proportions. Never starve yourself! Hope this could help you!
