Levator Syndrome

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if anyone has levator syndrome. Levator syndrome is spasms of the levator muscle that controls bowel movements. It makes you feel a chronic pressure in the upper rectum that can be very painful or just uncomfortable enough to wake you up at night. It isn't life threatening, but it hurts.

No, but I've had chronic hypertension in the pubbococcyx muscle, which is in the area, and did physical therapy for it (yes, in a clinic :o ) for a number of months, which really helped. You might see if there are any PT's that know of ways to work on the issue. I don't know if the muscle is 'accessible' through the rectum (I am thinking it's not) so biofeedback might not work, but there are a few PT's in almost every state that work on pelvic floor pain. They're hard to find, but it might be worth it.
