Eating Around Europe While Living Out Of A Backpack

Hi all

First - İ'm ın Turkey and using a Turkish keyboard so excuse the mistakes.

General comments: Mostly İ've gotten cold food from stores - sausage and cheese and tomatoes mostly - but I've also eaten out a few tımes.

I can eat all the daıry I want here wıth absolutely no problems.

The few times that I know İ.ve been glutened I haven't had any reactıon.

Not sure what the daıry thıng means except that maybe ıt's not the milk I have a problem wıth, but all the nasty thıngs our cows eat.

As for the lack of gluten response I have a couple of ideas. One ıs that there ıs so much less wheat beıng used here ın general that finally I am truley gluten-free, not just mostly gluten-free and the lıttle bıt I've gotten the 2 tımes wasn't enough to do anythıng.

The other thought ıs that the wheat here ısn't so ıncredıbly ınbred to be hıgh ın gluten that ıt would take more than I got (ın combınatıon wıth beıng completly gluten-free) to cause a reactıon. And I'm not talkıng a lıttle cc. I actually was half way through a meal when the waıter came out and saıd 'oh I'm so sorry, the cook forgot and dıd use flour and I've just found out'. I may have had some heart palpıtatıons, but that also could have been because I was terrıfıed about what was goıng to happen. But nothıng did.

The second tıme I sort of delıberately took a chance when the pepper I ordered showed up breaded and deep frıed. I peeled off the coatıng and scraped the pepper but we all know how useful that ıs....

I may have had some lethargy from ıt, but that also could have been because ıt was 104F (40C).

In Eastern Europe wheat isn't used as a cheap fıller because any filler costs money.

Italy was also no problem. It's easy to avoıd breaded thıngs and sauces.

I walk fast for fitness, 4 to 6 km per day. I am also 74 years old. Apart from the Celiac challenge, my lifestyle is healthy. I had a sciatiac nerve pinching under my one foot, with inflamation in my whole shin. It was almost cured, when the other shin started paining and burning. I do stretches, use a natural cooling gel and rest my feet. Can Celiac cause muscle pains/inflamation, or is it just over-excercising?

I recently started shopping at a nearby Trader Joe's store. I was surprised at the number and variety of (healthy) gluten-free options sold there. I must admit their low prices are also quite tempting. However, I am curious as to the labeling on all their packages. While none of their products are certified as gluten-free, many are identified as 'GLUTEN FREE' on the packaging. Are these items safe for celiacs? Has anyone tried Trader Joe's products and have there been any adverse reactions?

HI, my doctor suggested one week of consuming gluten before blood tests.  I have been gluten free for 3 years.  Has anyone been through this and will I get exact results after one week of consuming gluten?  I don't even know if I can do this, if I get sick I am not sure if I can continue, any suggestions??  Thanks in advance.

PPI's can be a wonderful healing agent when used as prescribed on the label which I believe recommends use of up to 8 weeks. But they are like antibiotics in that they are overprescribed and undermonitored. Docs generally prescribe them and then keep prescribing them because they take care of immediate symptoms so well. Physicians are more into treating symptoms than uncovering causes.
