Weird Poop Question But Told This Is The Place To Ask It!

Recommended Posts

I was told to ask away with the poop questions because this is most likely THE place to get a response. . .

my 2 1/2 year old has these mushy poops and occasionally it looks like there is black pepper "sprinkled" all over it! I have done a Google search on this and come up with nothing; I am keeping a food journal on her but can't seem to trace it back to anything.

Has anyone here with malasborption due to celiac or something else experienced this in their kids stools?

Thanks!

I don't know, but glad you are asking. This forum has been mostly a safe place to ask such things. Hopefully, someone has had that experience.

Hi

My son at 2 had the weirdest poop! somedays his food would come through him whole. And I mean the juice buds from an orange wouldn't even be burst! I would be different colors and one time orange with what looked like ripped up paper! (No he wasn't eating salad.)

the pediatrician said he had a malabsorption syndrome and "not to worry".

My advice. If you think she has a malabsorption syndrome, start gluten free and lactose free right away and see if there's any change after about 6 months.

My son is 10 and has paid the price all this time!

As far as the 'pepper sprinkle' my first thought would be blood, but it wouldn't present like that. However it is easy enough to test and should be fairly cheap, even if you live in the States.

Hope this helps

Andie

I have had malabsorption due to celiac. My poo floats when I have ingested gluten and goes through me very quickly. Malabsorbtion is a symptom. Other symptoms along those lines include gas, foul-smelling stool, frequent and loose stool, distended belly, bloating....Iron sems to be one of the first nutrition deficiencies that show up as well as the b vitamins.

If you do decide to do bloodwork, make sure that she is continuing to eat gluten daily so that the test can be accurate.

thanks - i will ask the gastro about the "pepper" - my 2 1/2 year old also will never take her time to actually chew her food so ithink that may be PART of the prob;em when i see food chunks in her stool.

one thing is she lopves grapes but the grape sins never seem to be digested.
