As kbtoyssni already mentioned, IBS can have more than one cause. But IBS in itself is not a valid diagnosis, because an irritable bowel is a symptom, not a disease in itself. Any doctor who diagnoses people with IBS is either too ignorant to know better, or too lazy to figure out what the cause is, or both.

Mind you, a great many people on this site were 'diagnosed' with IBS before being accurately diagnosed with celiac disease (or else figured it out no their own, like me).

But whether the irritable bowel is caused by celiac disease, crohns, candida, ulcers or whatever else, ALL these illnesses benefit from a gluten-free diet. So, if you have stomach and bowel problems, you can't go wrong by going onto a gluten-free diet.

I am a German citizen, married to a Canadian 29 years, four daughters, one son, seven granddaughters and four grandsons, with one more grandchild on the way in July 2009.

Intolerant to all lectins (including gluten), nightshades (potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant) and salicylates.
