Tazo Organic Iced Greentea

My hubby just brought me this and I want it bad, now!

The ingredients label says natural flavors, so I called the site and they assured me it contains no allergens. Allergens? What about gluten, I'm worried there maybe barley.

I hope someone knows for sure, I am not going to trust the person I spoke with. I am already sick and don't want to chance getting sicker. :P

Thanks.

HELP!!!

jerseyangel Proficient

I just called them (I drink Awake Tea, so I had a box here with their phone number)

I was told that the Organic Iced Greentea was gluten-free, as are all the bagged leaf teas.

Enjoy! :D

Thanks jersey!

When I called my answer was too vague to trust. Especially since I've already been sick from the Mono, I didn't want to take even the slightest chance.

No problem :D

Are you feeling any better today?

Thanks, I am feeling much "brighter" if you know what I mean. I went to see my niece and nephew in their costumes on Halloween (but I did not attempt to go trick or treating with them.) Yesterday I rested all day and today will be my first attempt at shopping in a month. My mom and sister are picking me up and we will have a light lunch and try to visit a few stores at the outlet mall. They already said we could leave as soon as I get tired. I am hoping for about 5-6 stores, but I am just happy to get to go somewhere!

I'll report on my Mono thread when we get back.

I just posted there :)

jerseyangel, ..I've had their Wild Orange & Earl Grey since celiac so far so good ..but on their website it says (and ofcourse I just rechecked 1min ago)

All of our teas are gluten free, except for the following: Green Ginger, Tazo Honeybush and Lemon Ginger & Tea Lemonade

The first two are bagged teas, last two bottled.

So the customer service rep is right about the Organic Ice Tea. But either the rep is wrong or the website is, about the 2 filterbags... I plan on avoiding those.

Open Original Shared Link [click "what is Tazo" click "Faqs" ]

(took me an hour to find it the first time <_<

Snow Angel,

Thank you for posting this. It's so important to keep the info here accurate.

I just called Tazo again. The lady I spoke to apologized that the previous person had stated that "all bagged teas were gluten-free". The four teas that you listed all contain "natural flavors"--which in the case of Tazo means that this is a proprietary blend of ingredients that "may or may not" contain gluten. They won't divulge the formula, so we must assume it is not safe for us.

She told me that her instructions for customers inquiring about gluten (she read this to me) were to "steer consumers away from any teas with natural flavors".

Definitely worth speaking to your gastroenterologist about this. My own told me that by using Gaviscon a barrier forms over the contents of the stomach and stops gas and acid irritating the throat.  In fact, he said to me that because I found relief using Gaviscon that was a very clear indicator that reflux was the cause of that particular issue.   A wedge pillow will really help with this - or raising the top bed legs with bricks.

I did get the pneumonia vaccine about 4 years ago. I had this amazing allergist who did all those vitamin deficiencies test and told to get that vaccine. Unfortunately she retired.  I haven’t been to an allergist in a few years,  I’m not sure what my levels are now. I did have a pulmonologist who wasn’t concern and said I seemed fine to him that I was young etc. But yes I think I should at the very least get a different opinion. Thank you for your reply

Yes I do have acid reflux. I’m not on anything for it at the moment. I sometimes wonder if that’s what it could be because I get heart burn every night. I may revisit my gastrointestinal doctor again. Thanks for the reply

Hi @HelloFlowersGoodbyeFlour I wonder if you suffer from reflux, as if you do, you may find it could also be irritating your airways.  I shall explain: I have to use a blue inhaler from time to time, and it seems to be related to reflux.  Never had any trouble before my coeliac diagnosis, the reflux seemed to be something that developed following a holiday to France in 2019, where I had been exposed to gluten.    The reflux continued into the autumn and winter, my throat itched to begin with, particularly after meals, but it then that feeling of irritation seemed to spread to my lungs.  I even found it difficult to breathe on occasion. What stopped it in its tracks was using a wedge pillow at night, following a reflux diet (you can find them online), not eating 2-4 hours before bed and also having a dose of Gaviscon Advanced at night, which forms a barrier so that acid/food can't go back up your esophagus.  The throat irritation faded, and then I found it easier to breathe again. Just mentioning in case it could be a contributing factor.

Since initially getting your D checked a few years ago, has it since rebounded to normal levels? Sounds like at some point you got it checked again.
