Pristiq And Anxiety

Has anyone known of Pristiq for anxiety, since been diagnosed with Celiac I have had major anxiety.

I have recently been put on Pristiq only 4 days now, although I checked with my pharmacist who checked the ingredients and said it was safe for Celiac, then I rang another chemist who contacted the manufacturer and was told it had slight traces of gluten but a very very minimal amount. I called my Psychologist and he followed up and said the amount is so minimal and safe to contue. I am nervous about doing so and as this drug is quite new I cant find much information about it.

Any one have any thoughts.

Thanks

Lisa

I didn't seem to get a gluten reaction from it on the whole 5 days I was taking it but it wasn't something that did me personally any good. Sure I had no anxiety, I didn't care about anything and by day 5 I didn't care if I ate or even moved out of my chair.

If I had known there was any chance of there being gluten in it I would not have taken it at all.

It is a new drug that combines both antidepressant and antianxiety drugs. My body doesn't do well with antidepressants. I had my doctor switch me to just an antianxiety drug the generic Xanax, alprazolam, which is gluten free and have done well with it.

Thanks, I wont continue I am not to happy with the small trace of gluten, I dont feel that any trace amount is safe especially when it can be avoided.

Thanks for the reply I will chat with my GP. I am taking Mirtazapine already, which does seem to help especially with sleeping although I am still getting bad anxiety throughout the day.

Thanks for your reply.

I managed to get hold of my GP today, who said the its only traces of gluten and its so so small in the coating of the tablet, it would have no effect and has asked me to stay on them until I see my Gastroenterologist in a couple of weeks.

Did anyone else try Pristiq?

Do you think such small amounts of traces would be safe?

Due to them been Antidepressants I shouldn't stop without medical advice and they are helping with my anxiety.

Thanks

Lisa

If the med is helping you stay with it as long as you are not having gluten symptoms. Whether trace amounts will cause a noticeable reaction is dependant on a lot of factors. Most important of them being how sensitive someone is.

When you switched from Pristiq to Xanax did you just switch over or cut down and start. Did you have any side effects from Xanax?

Thanks

I decided to call my GI and ask his advice just waiting on a reply. I am very nervous about taking anything if its possible it contains gluten even such minimal amounts.

My Psychiatrist made me feel I was been silly and told me to continue taking them, I do have severe anxiety atm, so I guess he is just trying to control that but he didn't seem to take into consideration that I was concerned about gluten.

He mentioned Xanax wasn't suitable for anxiety, so dismissed my request to change to that, so he really confused me, I think I might see someone else.

Just waiting to hear back from my GI now.

Thanks

I took Pristiq for 3 weeks and had intestinal problems and was crying myself to sleep and then started to find something that looked like a marshmallow in the toilet. Finally took it apart and it had powder in it. I took all my pills for the day and soaked them in water. The only thing left at the end of the day was the Pristiq looking like a marshmallow and it just had a little bit of powder. So for 3 weeks it was going straight through me. I called the company and she said it did have gluten in the active ingredient. Normally I am not super sensitive. I quit taking it and tried to get a hold of the psych for 3 days and by the time I talked to him I was a basketcase. Crying in bed in the afternoon. I would not take it even if they say it just has a little. It really messed with me.
