Lactose?

Hi everyone,

I've been gluten-free for a little over a month now. The past few weeks I think I've been having trouble with milk products. I notice myself having a great deal of gas after I have any milk products:-( Now my friend is lactose intolerant, and her doctor had recommended that she keep yogurt in her diet, because the active culture will negate the lactose effect (so to speak). Well apparently the same doesn't apply to me, even the smallest amount of yogurt leaves me feeling puffed up like a hot air balloon!

My question is, at least for a few weeks/months (until my system straightens itself out), do you think that I would react better to soy milk? I finally found Health Valley's Rice Crunch'ems cereal, and I really want to be able to enjoy a nice big bowl of cereal with milk again, one of my favorite things to eat.

And does anyone have any suggestions what to do about the excess gas I experience? Unfortunately because of the celiac disease, I eat a lot of vegetables which could cause some of it (but the veggies fill me up!), I drink a lot of water (I'm always thirsty).

      Legumes can be a source of wheat contamination, but I assume that you use versions labelled "gluten-free."

      You may want to look into Benfotiamine, which is the fat soluble version of B1.

      As a side note, it seems that medical science has evolved in the past 5-6 years regarding Celiac Disease, and I am now catching up. It seems that anything that disrupts the microbiome sufficiently enough can--in genetically susceptible individuals--lead to Celiac Disease. I have been reading now that antibiotics, excessive simple carbohydrates such as refined sugars and starches, the manner of birth such as C-section vs vaginal delivery, the diversity of one's diet, the presence of certain bacteria or viruses, can all contribute to microbiome dysbiosis, which can lead to Celiac. This is fascinating research.
