Grain free and low FODmap anti itchy eczema
YoloGx replied to YoloGx's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Knitty, I hope you survived Thanksgiving ok. I ended up getting a migraine from eating lactose free yogurt that also had sugar etc in it. I thought it’d be ok but clearly it wasn’t!! you might want to consider sprouting your pseudo grains or at least soaking them overnight. It’s supposed to help get rid of a lot of the often offending excess phyta...- 6 replies

Grain free and low FODmap anti itchy eczema
YoloGx replied to YoloGx's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Knitty, wow—our experience with the histamine is so similar! That diet made me worse. What is it that you’ve done since? But yes for me the last three years my diet was otherwise very like the autoimmune diet. I’ve eaten an awful lot of zucchini and lettuce and cucumbers for instance. However I was also eating those pseudo grains every day. Plus cocon...- 6 replies

Grain free and low FODmap anti itchy eczema
YoloGx replied to YoloGx's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Knitty, I’m glad to hear that the autoimmune protocol diet has helped you. It really is good for a lot of people. Unfortunately I developed severe histamine intolerance when I tried following that diet years ago. I was loving making sauerkraut and bone broth but it didn’t last long. It ended up increasing my histamine intolerance and thus mig...- 6 replies

Grain free and low FODmap anti itchy eczema

I’m actually wondering if scar tissue from a traumatic accident when I was six could have also created intestinal adhesions. I take serrapeptase regularly to counteract scar tissue. However it seems like I get bloated no matter what I eat, though some things like eating more than just a smidgen of cabbage or an excess of almond flour are worse. Meanwhile d...- 6 replies

Hi, I am re- discovering that a grain free diet is helping my eczema go away plus hits making me able to sleep way better. That along with a lower FODMap diet is reducing my bloating. I realize this could be considered a controversial topic—however it’s really helping me even though I’ve had no great need to lose weight. Just getting rid of the i...

Hi Melissa, I just rejoined celiac.com and am happy to answer your question although yes it has been years!! I no longer take nattokinase due to the fact it is made from soy, plus it is fermented--and I have a sensitivity to both fermented things and soy as it turns out. Instead I have been taking serrapeptase for many years. It is derived from silkworms...

ARCHIVED Any Ideas For These Symptoms Beyond Celiac
YoloGx replied to Mizzo's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Just want to say these last two years I discovered that besides having celiac I also have a high degree of sensitivity to a variety of other food chemicals namely: salicylates, tannins, amines and oxalates. These are not allergies, instead they are sensitivities, which INHO unfortunately are largely ignored by both sides of our medical establishment in the... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Reaction That Is Not Intestinal In Nature
YoloGx replied to Beth in N's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am glad the awareness is growing that some of us are more sensitive than others. Neurological symptoms are often experienced by those of us who are simply more sensitive to gluten than others. It can be caused simply by not getting the nutrients you need to support your neurological system due to leaky gut in the intestinal villi. In some cases, IMHO... -
Its good to see your stories CleverKate and Kamma. I am so glad you both are doing so much better being off the gluten. It is such an amazing thing to learn, eh?? I too have struggled with gluten ataxia for years, though it may not have been as obvious to others given the fact I had figured out I was "allergic" to gluten by the time I was thirty (I am...

Congratulations on your new job! I do understand your concern about the gluten in the plaster dust. It is a real concern. I suggest you wear a good dust mask. You probably won't need the heavy duty kind with charcoal filter nozzles--which might cause you some distress if worn all day! If you were in the same room with the construction however the heavy...

ARCHIVED Pins & Needles Pain In Feet, Spasms In Legs
YoloGx replied to AVR1962's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
As you likely remember I can relate. I had trauma to my L-5 vertebrae and sacrum as a child and have to exercise to make up for the lack of bone on the back of the L-5 vertebrae (the "wings") which were severed off when I was young as well as exercise to keep my sacrum strong and act against chronic sciatica otherwise. So exercise really does help--walking... -

YoloGx replied to Skittles's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree with what Mitzi said, though other things can contribute like the cross contamination and damaged villi in the intestines causing mal absorption of basic nutrients you need for healthy nerves and brain etc. like B vitamins and vitamin E as well as the minerals (calcium, magnesium, zinc, trace minerals). Sometimes taking pancreatic enzymes and... -
ARCHIVED Is It Safe To Vacuum Up Gluten?
YoloGx replied to 123glldd's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree--a vacuum cleaner with a hepa filter is the best. I bought a used refurbished one and its great! However I have also used a shop vac with good success. Thing is though that when you open it up you really need to be suited up with your mask, gloves and a clothes you plan to wash. You can use the wet paper towel method, and then let it dry before... -
ARCHIVED Is It Safe To Vacuum Up Gluten?
YoloGx replied to 123glldd's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have gotten ill from the dust from sheetrock. If its not cleaned up, its the bad gift that keeps on going. I know since I am a property manager of old cottages that often have needed repair. If you can either wear a heavy duty mask with goggles or have someone else take a dampened paper towel(s) to pick up the sheetrock granules, and then just throw... -

Hi Bart, Glad to hear you were helped by some of our comments about sals after all. I too was helped here in that way concerning other food sensitivities. I literally had no idea. But on top of that, if it weren't for this forum I'd have had no idea that I needed to be as careful of cross contamination from gluten as I do. By being that careful, I now... -
ARCHIVED Is It Possible To Get Dh In Genital Area?
YoloGx replied to glutenmommy's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Hi, I know this is a late response--but just saw the thread now. I also have had intense itching, cracking, scaling skin and hives in the genital area including around the anus--and terrible flaky, scaling, crusty inside of my outer ears. I used to get small pimples too as a young adult before I was mostly off all gluten--in these areas as well as my... -
Definitely gluten can be a huge factor. However for me I have also had food sensitivity trouble with a variety of natural food chemicals--namely salicylates, amines and tannins. Hope you don't but just wanted to let you know its possible.

I have had problems with the charcoal filters, likely the coconut though it could be other stuff I am sensitive to. I am very salicylate sensitive as well as celiac. Hope you don't have that problem. I agree in any case, try spring water for a while and then go back on the filtered water and see if there is a difference.

ARCHIVED Uncontrollable Itching And Gluten Free.
YoloGx replied to mikyraso's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I agree--its likely you need to be completely off all trace gluten, at least that is what I have had to do to feel better. A bite of gluten something once a month really is likely too much, honestly. For years I was mostly off gluten, but had no concept that there even was trace gluten out there. But it was messing with me big time, and eventually brought... -
ARCHIVED Anybody In The Bay Area Or Nearby?
YoloGx replied to grodeylocks's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My bf and I live in San Jose near Los Gatos, and work in central San Jose. We have thought of putting together a celiac support group. Maybe this could the beginning of one?? Like many others here we also have other food sensitivities too. We are both involved in the creative arts and recently hypnotherapy. -
I hear you on that Takala. Sugar and all the weird additives and preservatives they put in so called food is making a wreck of the nation if not the world. Gluten is a killer whether or not one has out and out celiac--especially the super gluten they now have which is many times more potent and thus more addictive (with opiates) than the original. And, like...

This is truly amazing, I agree. Though it would be interesting if they also tested for simple gluten intolerance. I also think a stool test would be more pertinent than a blood test. The thing about "non whites" is that we are all related to each other. It gets a little tricky too to say what race we theoretically are or are not statistically, since these...

ARCHIVED 1 1/2 Years And I Got Glutened Again!
YoloGx replied to AVR1962's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ahh, we all have made mistakes like that one time or another. Some get away with it now and then. Most don't. If only it were that easy... Yes by all means explain your mistake and what happened to you and what you have to do to prevent it--assuming they are close friends or at least close enough. Plus next time be prepared or just don't go... Hard but... -
ARCHIVED 1 1/2 Years And I Got Glutened Again!
YoloGx replied to AVR1962's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I totally understand where you are coming from. I just hope they did not try to gluten you--that instead it was an inadvertent mistake rather than them being callous. It can be rather iffy being in such close quarters. I have even been glutened from someone handing me my bottle of water--by the head of the bottle. I have been thinking of putting little...
