  1. I have been on the gluten free, casein free life for years and just 2.5 years ago I was diagnosed with RA. I told the dr. I did NOT want to go on methotrexate or anything else, that I would get even stricter with my diet (no rice, no gluten substitutes, etc) and see what happened. Well, from January to October of that year it got much worse. I was bedridden...
  2. I have RA too. I've known about the gluten issue for 7 or 8 years but was only diagnosed with ra 2.5 years ago. My dr. doesn't think there's any connection but she also said food does not affect ra (I know better just from my flares! and there's plenty of research to back up a connection). I'm on methotrexate, plaquenil, prednisone. I hate the drugs...
  3. Hi Renee, Paleo is the only way I survive It's so easy, meats, vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds. No thinking necessary if you keep it simple. I've lost over 50 pounds which I needed to do and I feel great. I no longer have any symptoms of gluten intolerance and even my husband and son say they feel so much better eating this way. My hypoglycemia...
  4. I have both. I was diagnosed about 10 years ago with Fm and 2.5 years ago with RA. I am on several meds for it and have to have blood tests every 6 to 8 weeks. The RA meds, methotrexate, plaquenil, prednisone, do not help the fibro at all unfortunately. Ann

    July 01, 2007

wow, I'm losing weight finally! I'm down to 166 from a prednisone high of 186. I want 40 more at least. We bought a camper The day after we bought it we took it out for a test run. Very successful. It's so nice because we can vacation and I can cook and control the food now. DH still goes out and gets his bread and claims a little won't hurt him...
  6. I'm so sorry you haven't found her yet. My pomeranian had a grand mal seizure yesterday followed by a petit mal seizure. That was one of the scariest things I've gone thru! My vet said it's very odd but there have been a lot of dogs having seizures in the last week, said he's never seen anything like this. He told me that the dog will calm down after...
  7. Schedule has been SO full! Son performed in Much Ado about Nothing, Guys and Dolls, and The Great Plains Theatre Conference. He's now in rehearsals for Love's Labour's Lost. Lots of eating out and no exercise. I have lost 15 pounds now since March 23! I'm no longer on prednisone which certainly helps. I am doing really well with eating fruits and vegetables...

    ARCHIVED Chili's

the one in Lincoln gave me print out sheets that listed all allergens (peanuts, eggs, milk, wheat, etc.) plus a specific one for gluten free foods. The manager took them back after I ordered and said they get updated ones every two to three weeks so each time I come in, to ask for their allergy lists. I really like their honey bbq sirloin. Ann
  9. Jodi, I feel like I could have written this post. I have rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia. With prednisone, I have also gained 50 pounds. I can't seem to get the weight off either. I have recital, graduations and then a very formal event coming up and I am so embarrassed because nothing fits at all and I can't afford to buy all new clothes. It...

    ARCHIVED Chili's

I've had consistently good meals and no reactions at the Lincoln Nebraska one as well. The manager was outstanding, came to my table and went thru the menu with me the first time. It was one of the better restaurant experiences I've had. Hu Hot in Lincoln is excellent as well. Glad it worked well for you too! Ann
  11. I like the new Pecan Nut-thins. They are great with almond butter
  12. I LOVE hockey! In fact, my birthday present was the NHL Center Ice channels! I, however, am crushed beyond words....my Dallas Stars lost to the Canucks in a very hard fought playoff series. I've been gone so much I haven't been able to catch any of the games since then, and some of those Dallas games I had to tape and watch in the middle of the...
  13. thank you everyone. I feel better after reading all your posts. I did wash the pan before using it but not in the dishwasher with the super hot water so maybe if it was contaminated somehow, I didn't get it all out. I'm glad (but also sorry) to hear that someone else has had problems with the brownies. Surely they don't have gluten??? I really felt horrible...
  14. that's an idea too, I don't normally drink milk or use it in anything so if this had it, I could have had a reaction to that. I only had to add eggs and oil but it may have had milk products in the mix. Also Missys Mom mentioned the guar gum. I don't know if that was in the brownies or not and I threw the box away when I put the pan in the oven so I can...
  15. thank you for the ideas. I didn't use a mixer so it couldn't have been that but I got glutened at the end of March and maybe this aggravated it. My tummy this morning is still rumbly and I have a lot of indigestion so I'll drink alot of fluids today and see if that helps. Swallowing a brick is a good description, even with the D, I feel like there...
  16. great thoughts but no, I just bought a new baking pan and it was new utensils. Since hubby was diagnosed as well we started over with everything in the kitchen so all of it is fresh. I started thinking maybe it was something I'd eaten earlier in the day catching up with me so today I had one small brownie and my stomach again was doing cartwheels and cramping...
  17. we thought we'd try them and within 1/2 hour I was in so much pain and then spent most of my evening in the bathroom (sorry ) they tasted great but oh my gosh! I also bought the spice cake and the favorite sandwich bread but now I'm afraid to make them. anyone else have trouble with their products? Ann
  18. it wasn't routine. He'd been having trouble keeping weight on, violent D, run down, feeling terrible, stomach cramps, the whole bit. They did a biopsy at that point on some spots (I guess that's how they found the damage). I don't really know what all they did. He went to dr. appt. by himself and forgets most of whats said....guess I'll start going...
  19. DH went in for a colonoscopy 6 years ago due to sudden and violent D. He was told to not eat as much wheat and they left it at that, said it "might" help him. He went in for his physical today and the dr. pulled up his chart and found that the chart said "sprue" damage found 6 years ago. Husband said he remembered hearing that word in passing a few years...
  20. My doctor flat out told me that most dr.s will not take hypoglycemia seriously because it is controlled by diet and there are no drugs for it so there's no money in it for them. My son went into convulsions and was in the hospital two days due to hypoglycemia. (that's how we found it). It's very frustrating to then go to a "specialist", an endocrinologist...
  21. YES! I was vegetarian for years but couldn't get my blood sugar under control. I was also anemic. I started with fish and had terrible burping (sorry). I then tried chicken. It went much easier. I only had a few bites at a time but within a week or so started feeling better. I have added some beef (not much though), lots of seafood and chicken. I...
  22. ff, you are over-reacting to my post just as you did Jessica's. All I said was she should talk to a doctor and that there is more to celiac than weight issues. My Dad died from cancers due to celiac, you don't have to get snippy with me about health issues and celiac. You should calm down and read the posts as they are, not as you seem to be seeing them...
  23. I'm very happy for you that you are feeling better! I'm to the same place. I can't eat much but meats, non-starchy vegetables, fruits. I do feel better and haven't had intestinal problems at all. I did try some nuts the other day and my joints hurt so badly now, I'm giving those up forever I think!
  24. Elizabeth has no influence on anything I do! I guess I don't understand your post either. Do you think you have celiac or are you using this simply for energy and weight loss? Even people without celiac find they have more energy without wheat (low carb anyone?). If you suspect celiac, you should discuss this with your doctor.
  25. I haven't had the soups but I had the Amy's gluten free mac and cheese and got very, very sick. A few weeks later I tried an Amy's gluten free pizza and got really sick again. I won't ever buy their products again, that's for sure!
