  1. You're hilarious! I used my kids when they were little as an excuse to dress up and take them out and steal about 75% of their candy. It wasn't just that I was young either, I'd do it still now if I had kids. They just don't need all that candy. I mean come on... how much candy does a 2 year old really need? My mom stole my candy until I got wise and started...
  2. Besides it cooking on the top rack, if it is cooked on pans rather than on screens, which I imagine would be almost necessary for a gluten free pizza the risk would be minimized during cooking. Unfortunately, based on what they told you it seems that they are utterly clueless. Using things like shared bins for toppings and shared utensils for cutting is a...
  3. I don't think I've ever seen Boar's Head in packages, but I've never let that stop me from getting it. There are two local delis here that sell it. One sells only Boar's Head meats and cheeses so there is no risk of CC from whatever else is there. The other does sell some other stuff that I'm not the least bit interested in knowing more about. (The first...
  4. Our church does a trunk or treat. I had honestly never heard of such a thing growing up, and all I can think now is how hilarious (and kind of twisted) it is that we teach our kids to never get in a car with a stranger for candy... but it's cool to go to a parking lot full of cars with strangers with candy. Kind of mixed messages, just sayin. MY MIL...
  5. uh.... yes. But I'm surprised that based on the fact that he was yelling at a mammoth you knew what he was playing. He's all "the mammoths are tough" as if this is a fact that everyone knows. Except me of course since I never played Skyrim. And gratz on the pizza. Always good news when things go smoothly.
  6. Spaghetti with meatballs tonight. It's something I used to enjoy a lot more often when I could just buy meatballs, but the only ones available all have soy in them. So, due to laziness I don't get my meatballs very often. My husband is playing a video game and was killing a mammoth. I told him we could have fusilli instead of the usual pasta if he wanted...
  7. I never worry about whether things are marked gluten free or not, I simply check the ingredients and if it's a new company to me I check with them on manufacturing processes. I have a lot of time on my hands that some people just don't and checking on that is probably unnecessary since it is rare for me to find out something is actually unsafe. There are...

    ARCHIVED Holidays

Because of the time of year you have received this diagnosis, how you choose to spend your holidays may shape your son's attitude toward his diseases for the rest of his life. The holidays are supposed to be full of love and joy, magic and wonder, especially for children. You can stay home and make it that for him, teach him how he can still truly enjoy it...
  9. I don't think I've seen the salted caramel one yet. (Although I did try that flavor of Greek Gods yogurt at the expo and it is to die for.) At any rate, I'm a huge fan of nuts (har har crack your jokes) and will probably still always pistachio my favorite. It was my second favorite ice cream flavor growing up after teaberry. I was an odd duck.
  10. omg I don't know that I truly lived before gelato! Talenti makes a really good one that is widely available. All of them are good, but I'm backing up the pistachio here. By far my favorite even over chocolate.
  11. I'm the kind of person who can "sneak" into the kitchen at 11 and eat 2 spoonfuls and put it back in the freezer. Or maybe 3.... definitely no more than 4. At any rate, it isn't much and I savor every mouthful like it's the last thing I'll ever eat. I figure if an entire pint disappears slowly that way, it won't hurt me.
  12. Isn't every night gelato night if you have some in the house? It is in my house!
  13. They make vinyl gloves you know, and they're usually blue. Us allergic people could start a new trend. ....ok, I actually use soap and water too. And since I'd probably turn up allergic to hazmat suits (and so would you for sure ) I think it's a sound plan to stick to. Works on me and on my kitchen.
  14. Yes, it is my understanding that you have to eat it daily to have accurate blood tests. There is also no such thing as "really not a bad case" of celiac. You either have it, or you don't. It can be more seriously progressed and have caused more damage, someone can have had it undiagnosed for long enough to have much more serious symptoms than someone else...
  15. There is no reference to back up that number so for all we know they pulled that 60% out of their you-know-whats. On top of that, it looks like nothing more than a sponsored story by a company that has been pushing the media very hard lately in an attempt to get more guinea pigs for their study so they can sell drugs to celiacs so they can get money. "News...
  16. Comes from too much brain and not enough space for it. Gets all squeezed up on itself and starts pokin' me in the eye being all "gimme space!" and I'm all "shut the hell up and stay put and GET OFF MAH EYE!" (It's actually the fluid but shhhh... we won't tell.) It's actually a legume problem but I've been doing okay with small amounts of peanut butter...
  17. I can't take life without beans any more, it's making me crazy. So, I am going to try all different types of beans to see what I do and don't get reactions to. My issue with them in the past (distant past, nearly a year) is that they make me more or less blind in my left eye. So tonight I'm making refried beans with pinto beans, because they're what I...
  18. You say you had an endoscopy and colonoscopy but you don't say if you had biopsies taken. You also don't say if you ever had blood tests done. You should get a copy of all of your test results. Only you can decide if pursuing a diagnosis is right for you, but you'll have to do so by finding a doctor willing to do so. This may mean driving to a larger city...
  19. I know you say you've been super careful. We all are. And yes, we are all capable of mistakes. That doesn't change the fact that when something like this happens it means check, check and re-checking everything. Especially when something so blatent comes up. That and seeing a doctor since there is a family history of Crohn's is important. Unless you pinpoint...
  20. But that sort of slipping may be what caused it. Again, go over the past few weeks with a fine tooth comb. Sure, could be a medical issue so seeing the doctor is probably a good idea. And it could be milk. Or it could just be being too comfortable and a few things slipped at once. She wouldn't be the first person it happened to. At her age though she...
  21. Oats are not safe unless they are listed as certified gluten free oats. So the oats are what make Lucky Charms unsafe. They aren't gluten free oats. If she has been eating any oatmeal at all over the past weeks that is not certified gluten free oatmeal that could make gluten the culprit. The only General Mills cereals that are advertised as gluten free are...
  22. Lots of good advice. Remember, not everything gluten free will be marked gluten free. There are probably a ton of things you already buy that are gluten free naturally that you don't even think about. This is early, but I'm already gearing up for baking so it's on my mind. There is a magazine called Living Without. The holiday issue (it has a turkey on...
  23. Nothing personal against your doctor, and he may be great... but as a general rule unless a doctor personally has celiac they tend to know about as much as the family dog about what is and isn't gluten free. (Maybe less.) Just because the doctor didn't tell you something is safe, doesn't mean it isn't. Doctors live in a world of medical stuff. The rest of...
  24. I have called J&J about lotions and soaps in the past and haven't been told of any (as of yet) that contain gluten. They're very helpful if you call them, just have the product at hand to read off the UPC to the person on the phone and they'll tell you if it is gluten free or not. I'm not saying you need to change soaps, but if you do and are looking...
  25. A failed or malfunctioning computer doesn't mean everything is lost. It is possible if you take it to a tech they can retrieve your hard drive information. A blue screen is rarely (if ever) related to your hard drive, so your information is probably all intact. If you have truly valuable information on there, you can probably go to a tech and tell them what...
