  1. I probably sound like a spoiled brat all the times I whine about how the closest gluten free bakery that makes cupcakes is 30 minutes away. There is a bakery like 10-15 minutes away that does breads and cookies but frankly no cupcakes equates to them not even counting as a real bakery in my book. And their bread is only okay. The bread at the bakery farther...
  2. "Don't look things up on the internet... leave that sort of doctoring to me!" ....moron I would not waste another minute or cent on the idiot. I don't expect doctors to know everything and I am not opposed to a doctor needing to look something up that s/he doesn't already know. But when the doctor spends more time staring at a web browser than listening...
  3. I could also post it over there in the interest of having all the Thanksgiving recipes in one place. I'll do it when I get home. Going around TP'ing threads.... hooligan.
  4. I've sworn I haven't given up on eating out, but other than a gluten free bakery and a place with a gluten free kitchen I haven't been out since a pizza incident. It's my own fault, I went out on a Friday night at dinner time to a pizza place which is against my own rules. I've been to the same place on weekdays at non-peak hours with no issues so I know...
  5. blah blah blah...... I put it where it was asked for Besides, this is where we started talking about the cornbread and I'm sure by now Shadow's head is spinning too with all the back and forth hijacking here.
  6. I missed seeing this last week! I'm going back this week though because they supposedly have Rudi's stuffing by now. I tried that popcorn at the Expo last month and O...M...G...!!!! I could eat my weight in popcorn and still want more.
  7. Nope. I found my magazine and it's actually called cornbread pudding, not stuffing. Whatever. They should just called it cornbread amazingness. I've tried and tried, but I just can't find it on their website or get a pdf of last year's holiday issue. I wanted to make sure I don't actually lose it so I added it to my recipe collection and just copy/pasted...
  8. I always look at all those fancy safe for me sausages when I see them but they're like a bazillion dollars so I nearly always pass. It sounds awesome though, especially as a hoagie! People here think hoagies are weird. I just feel like making faces at them and telling them that I think subs are weird. I realized as I was getting ready for bed last night...
  9. I grew up baking, not cooking. So uh... it's breadcrumbs? I put bread in a food processor and BAM! It's whatever I decide to call it. I'm sure if our resident expert meanders along she'll be able to explain that there is an important difference but it's all the crumbs of bread to me.
  10. Just so you know, I'm not a completely horrible person who forgot about you or was ignoring you. I went out to the mall last night to get a phone and then looked around later for my recipes from last year. No dice. I usually just google recipes and use whatever looks good for my sides. I don't get too attached to that sort of recipe. If you're a fan of...
  11. Um... I'd have to figure out where the recipe is exactly. It was in the holiday issue of last year's Living Without. I just need to figure out what I did with it. I sort of misplaced a few of my first issues. I know they didn't get thrown away but I reorganized some things and they're here somewhere. I'll see if I can remember to look for it and find it...
  12. Oh right, so I made chili last night and I didn't know how it would turn out because I've never made chili before. Apparently chili is idiot proof, and it was amazing. I think though the recipe didn't want enough beans, I wasn't thrilled with the meat:bean ration so I'll have more beans handy next time. I also don't seem to be having any ill effects at all...
  13. If you have literally never made a pie crust before, you should either get practice or go with a package instead of making your first one on a holiday. I'm not saying you'll fail but apparently I've been told it's a difficult thing to master. I wouldn't have a clue, having grown up in my Grammy's kitchen I could roll a pie crust by the time I was 5 and I...
  14. I knew you have one and are quite happy with it. I'm sure that if I lived in the middle of freakin' nowhere like you did I would have signed up long ago. And yes, things sent to people arrive quite quickly, which is good for those with as much patience as a half starved honey badger on his way to dinner. Also, "GPS thinger" ...... *snicker* (because...
  15. The only caffeine in hot chocolate is from the chocolate so if having it from chocolate doesn't bother you, it shouldn't from hot chocolate either. They don't just add caffeine to hot chocolate. If you are worried about mixes, you can just use cocoa, sugar, vanilla and milk to make some. It doesn't take any longer if you're the kind of person that makes your...
  16. Unless there is an issue with a topical allergy, soap isn't an issue for people with celiac. That said, because there is the possibility it could get in a small child's mouth with all the messing around in a tub, it can't hurt to be safe. J&J baby soap in the yellow bottle is gluten free. I used to use it. Eucerin Calming Body wash is also. It is...
  17. If you do, or are going to do, a lot of online ordering you can get their subscription thinger. Frankly though, I go with the policy that if it isn't available to me locally I don't need it that bad. I think the sub is like $80 a year and there isn't anything I need so bad that I'll pay that much a year to get it mailed to me. Of course, I'm already a spoiled...
  18. Hey, whether or not it was going down the hatch anyway a reasonably good excuse isn't a bad idea. I do things like that to justify some of my bad habits.
  19. You were gonna have a cupcake anyway.
  20. I've heard really good things about the Van's crackers but just haven't ever tried them. I swear by Hodgson Mills brownie mix as my go to for in a pinch. I haven't tried the corn bread, but I have tried a few of their other things and have never been disappointed. I made cornbread stuffing last year for Thanksgiving and was planning on probably doing...
  21. That would have to be one damn good cake! And happy birthday, I totally didn't even realize because I just skim past signatures that I've already read. Look at that, both your birthdays are the same month.
  22. If I could ever get my husband near a vegetable without him acting like he was going to die this would be the perfect solution to a two person Thanksgiving. There just are not a lot of good ways to cook just a breast without a turning into something horrid so we always end up with a whole stupid bird. Last night we had egg nog french toast with the baguettes...
  23. The man is a culinary god. I've never had one of his recipes fail and I'll try anything he says at least once. His word is law in our kitchen.
  24. I'm an either or sort of person depending on small a turkey I could find. If I forget to shop early enough I sometimes can't find one small enough to brine, which makes me sad. But if I do get one that is too big to fit in a pan all the way with a lid to cover with liquid, I usually do an injection concoction and a bag. I used rice flour last year, and for...
  25. Dinner tonight had a loaf of fresh bread added to it. It was, admittedly, my very first not from a box (which I've only done once anyway) bread. And I'm very thrilled to say it is delicious. It made two baguettes, and one is half gone, devoured warm and dripping with butter. I totally ignored the recipe's flour ingredient list and simply went with my new...
