The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
Adalaide replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'm also a fan of cornmeal. My husband isn't the world's biggest fan, but I love the texture and flavor and how it makes a pizza just slide right off of anything. Tonight we're having polish sausages I found on sale. I think I may also find the ambition to make some kluski to go with them. Not something I've had since all the ethnic food festivals back... -
ARCHIVED Dominos!
Adalaide replied to Moongirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I can tell you having worked in both Dominos and other pizza places that unless it is an unopened, unused container of sauce, it is not gluten free. The sauce is put on the pizza by using a ladle to dip it out, then using that same ladle to smear it around the crust, then the ladle goes back in the sauce container. As soon as the first non-gluten free pizza... -

OMG, I was just over at the J&D's website. Apparently they make a baconlube. Some things don't need bacon. Yeah, I said it. (also inappropriate conversation for the win) -

And on that note, and before you get scared out of the kitchen... I'll post the cornbread pudding recipe over here like I said I would and where recipes are supposed to be gathering for you. I only said I was going to do it Monday then totally forgot like a doofus. By the way, the part of the directions that says to pour out the bacon fat and add olive oil... -

I'm pretty sure the only reason you don't have all of us flocking to your house is the fact that we would all freeze to death halfway there! Yesterday we grabbed a Costco chicken, and since it's just the two of us they make dinner for two days if we're responsible. (sometimes we're not ) So tonight we'll go for the other half of the chicken and some... -
ARCHIVED What's Your Favorite gluten-free Chocolate? (Soy Free, If Possible)
Adalaide replied to ItchyAbby's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Can not recommend. I had heard them recommended and went out of my usual price range for them. The discs are good for a Mexican hot chocolate but outside that they taste kinda funky and have really bad texture. -

I thought this looked like a nice traditional recipe. You can of course use any soup you like. Open Original Shared Link -

If not cutting the crust off the bread when we make bread crumbs while calling them panko will kill us, well.... I'm not sure about you but I'm all sorts of screwed. I do make large crumbs though, because who likes bread that has been processed until it's like sand? Maybe I get points for being half right. -

I usually use McCormick. I have used some Simply Organics in the past and not had a problem with them. *shrug* As a matter of fact I think the rosemary in my spice bin is still Simply Organics. I'm not sure if you mean the same company when you say Simple Organics or if there is another company with a similar name. One thing to double check is to verify... -
Unless it has been outright mandated where the bagels come from, I would simply find the closest gluten free bakery. Special order enough for the next Friday and go pick those up. See how that turns out and how quickly you get replaced as the bagel person. HAH! Or at least you'll be picking up something you can eat and won't have to resent it and they'll...

If you want to try a nice fall waffle, pumpkin waffles are great. Hmmm... I think I'm adding pumpkin to my shopping list today and putting breakfast for dinner on my meal planner. I don't keep agave nectar around the house, so I just sub honey. When I don't have an ingredient like that I just google what to replace it with. And vanilla is vanilla, I don't... -

You gotta work on those ninja skills, you're not quite as sneaky as you think you are. Oh... omg!!! Went to a GIG meeting tonight. Blah blah blah medical stuff.... the Gluten Free Heaven girl was there and she brought poptarts she made with pie crust and jelly. O!M!G! So good. I didn't even ask what fat she used in the pie crust, which I know I'm not... -
I have my own separate can opener. As long as it has been well cleaned, using one that has been around shouldn't be a problem. But if you've been wanting a new one, now is your perfect excuse!

I'm glad I'm not the only one! There are a lot of sounds that make me crazy, like fingernails on a chalkboard. Sometimes I feel like I the world is conspiring against my ears! I want one of the little flat ones to make ice cream sandwiches with. At the fair I grew up going to they used them and ice cream that comes in a box. Just slice off a square... -

Ghiradelli is enjoyed by many here. While I do have a soy problem, it's a weird one and oddly enough I seem to do okay with lecithin and do enjoy Ghiradelli when I'm slumming it. I'm not even a little kidding about the chocolate snob thing. I can't imagine any circumstance under which I would willingly eat Hershey chocolate. I can't recommend Amano enough... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free/decaf Hot Chocolate?
Adalaide replied to Waitingindreams's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
A note about making your own hot chocolate. Mix the cocoa powder with just enough of the milk to get it wet first and mix until it is smooth. It'll be about an equal amount of milk and cocoa powder to do that. Or you can use water. It complete prevents any of the clumpiness that you can get by just throwing it all together without doing that first. I use... -

They make a decent chocolate bar. The bag of squares is good for portion control. I was rather convinced that they have soy in them though? -

That's two of us doing it wrong. I doubt either of us have ever suffered from it though! -
It's a toaster oven, those are easy to clean. Relatively anyway. Toasters can't be. Sounds like you're getting ahead of everything. I do agree on the storage containers though, unless you use glass like Pyrex or something. A pretty significant number of us here (with shared houses) use ones with red lids to distinguish them as different from the rest...

Hey, if it grows and it's not an animal or grain, it's a vegetable! That's a rule around here. And that's the kind of waffle iron I have. It's a Bella brand one that I grabbed two years ago on a Black Friday sale for $10 or $15. I was so happy that my hours and hours and hours standing around in the below freezing temps paid off that night. Black Friday... -

Waffle irons are all a matter of preference. I personally have a Belgian one. It makes lovely waffles that are light, fluffy and airy on the inside and crispy on the outside. -
The evidence of a trigger seems to be entirely anecdotal and there is no actual scientific evidence or studies to back that up. That doesn't mean though that it isn't the case, we just don't know. All we do know is that basically something trips a switch, like someone turning on a light switch. As far as I have been able to find there is no evidence that...

ARCHIVED What's Your Favorite gluten-free Chocolate? (Soy Free, If Possible)
Adalaide replied to ItchyAbby's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'm not brand picky. That said, I buy almost exclusively what most people (including my husband) would consider rather expensive chocolate. I like dark chocolate, not milk and find that more often than not it what I pick up to check ingredients on doesn't have soy in it. You may find that if you stop shopping chocolates advertised as allergy freindly and...
