  1. I managed to make dinner tonight. Fried up some beef tips and hash browns. Miraculously I also managed to somehow wake up sicker today than yesterday after sleeping for 12 hours. I am, without a doubt, going to be spending Christmas sick. Sure beats spending it recovering from surgery! In my infinite wisdom though I forgot to list parchment paper on my shopping...
  2. Made up words do not require proper spelling. Please excuse my hasty exit before IH gets her hands on me for saying so.
  3. The good news is that my husband is finally entirely out of spaghetti sauce in the freezer. The bad news is that that left me with no clue what to make, I was left resorting to steak and beans. Poor us! I'm not sure if I want to take on a new sauce recipe tomorrow or wait until after Christmas. I'm fighting a killer sinus infection and already need...
  4. I haven't made any yet due to my whole not supposed to be eating bacon thing but, how does someone find out that it would last 4 weeks? I mean, the idea that anyone remotely human with working taste buds could make it last even half that long is beyond my comprehension.
  5. If only we could all get there I am quite sure we could all find a way to keep those boys warm.
  6. The ONLY thing I miss about being back "home" in PA rather than out here in wonderful, dry UT is my dad and brother and their hunting. I do not miss lake effect snow. I do not miss summers so humid it is like trying to breathe soup. Oh the other hand, my brother shot 6 deer this season. My dad has brought home elk, buffalo, moose, and bear that I recall immediately...
  7. I have a stupid naked tree. In a box. In my closet under my stairs. I was supposed to make a roast last night but got around to my peanut brittle late and then... well my roast is still sitting in it's package today judging me. I have some potatoes to use up, I'm sure I'll think of something to do with them. I'm working today and there is snow and ice...
  8. Oh, I remember. I'm still debating what to do for my birthday. Tiramisu... pink champagne cake.... key lime cake... just go out for red velvet cupcakes... I don't know!!! I'd have all of them but someone hasn't come through on the muumuus yet.
  9. I love lamb. Bear? Now there is greasy gross animal. Blech, my dad can keep those to himself if he shoots another. Yuck! I agree that elk is good, moose too.
  10. I do have eczema and have since I was a teen. If possible (and not embarrassing) I would try to get a few pics or maybe just check out what you can find in the DH forums. You want to be sure you aren't confusing eczema for DH. I'm special.... I have both! I was advised by my dermatologist when I was first diagnosed with eczema to use Eucerin lotion...
  11. I really should learn to do 2 things. First is go to bed at a reasonable time. It is leaning towards midnight and well, here I am. Second, I should learn to think things through before speaking or typing. I have the feeling that is going to bite me one day and leave me quite a sore butt. I got ambitious enough after a nap to actually cook something...
  12. I don't generally do perky, but for scallops and risotto there is little I wouldn't do. Yes, do enjoy your dinner tonight and happy birthday to the grump. Me? I seem to have this problem where I stay up way too late and when my alarm goes off I'm swear that tonight I'll go to bed at a reasonable time. Then before I know what happened the clock...
  13. My baby cousin who was about 1 1/2 at the time spit out bacon and wouldn't try it again. I promptly took the opportunity to point out to my husband that it is his blood relation, not mine. Seriously, who spits bacon out?
  14. Trustfall chicken. Yeah, its a real thing. So I got turned on to the website cookingcomically.com via a friend's facebook post. I happened to pick up a whole chicken at the store and just used it instead of legs. For the record, dissecting a whole chicken is not my idea of a good time at 7 in the morning.
  15. That is so awesome!! I have a similarly cool compliment I got. I grew up in my grammy's kitchen. (More or less. It's where all my best memories are.) Every Saturday morning we would bake together all morning then feed lunch to whatever men were around. Sometimes just my grandpa, sometimes it seems hordes of them were there helping out at the sawmill...
  16. That's scary! I'm glad you're okay though and hope that you're back to feeling yourself soon. I'm not terribly far from that first mammogram and frankly not particularly excited. I have nothing but sympathy for that whole thing too as I've heard it can (as it was for you) sometimes be dreadfully awful. I ended up having Spam and toast and eggs. I still...
  17. Now I want Spam for supper! And I had to. My oldest daughter went through many food phases. She decided one morning she was a vegetarian, except chickens. Chickens don't have feelings. It was the only way to get one more "meat" into her.
  18. Yes, I suppose it is a fair question. It never occurred to me as a child that things weren't somehow natural. We killed our own animals, until I was 3 we had a milk cow and we grew our own vegetables. I didn't know food could come from, wherever it is marshmallows come from. I suppose I'm an odd duck though, as a parent I convinced my preschool aged children...
  19. Well that's easy. I grew up on a farm making jam. I know exactly how that got in the jars. I put it there! I didn't know when I was little that gravy could come in a jar. To this day I believe that it is a crime against humanity considering how easy it is to make yourself. If you weren't so darn far away I would come help. That sounds good...
  20. Fine.... fluff if you want to call it that. The jar does. But for some reason, when I was a small girl, I imagined a giant marshmallow sitting in a factory sneezing into jars. I like to just get a spoon sometimes and get a heap of it when I'm in the kitchen alone.
  21. If we send him out to shovel snow and the rest of the husbands too, they won't notice us spending all of our time drooling on the cabana boys. It is a brilliant plan! Far too lazy for cooking tonight, I had a little extra pasta from last night that I heated up and threw together with some Classico and the rest of my fresh cheese from lunch. Finished...
  22. Oh, if you're in charge of ordering you can be sure to count me for one of those big buff ones. I'll even take pale and blond if you have them there. Heck, I may even be inspired to find the energy to shovel sidewalks if I can watch them go by all day. I'm on my way!!! I suddenly don't care what is for supper.
  23. I'm pretty sure that where there is THAT MUCH snow to be shoveled all of the time, there is no need for cabana boys. But if we're getting one for no reason, we may as well get enough to go around. I have no clue what is for supper. I actually cooked for lunch so maybe I'll just have leftover arepas and a salad. Or something. I'm sure it'll all figure...
  24. I had some spaghetti sauce laying around my fridge and my husband found poison nuggets at the store so he had his chicken and I had pasta and a salad... with CROUTONS! My first in a year, they were so heavenly. I think I had more croutons than salad in my bowl.
