ARCHIVED Celiac And Religion
Adalaide replied to Sharpy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm so glad I read this. I am a member of the LDS church, or if you don't know that that means, I'm Mormon. I was still pretty doped up last week from my surgery so I didn't go to church. (I don't think God minds if I don't show up high.) Anyway, this will be my first Sunday back and it had never occurred to me that with sacrament every week this will be... -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
Adalaide replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Got brave enough to make some mac & cheese to go with my grilled chicken. If I didn't make it myself I wouldn't have guessed it was gluten free. Maybe this isn't so bad after all. -
ARCHIVED Which Is Easier For You: Dairy Or Gluten Free?
Adalaide replied to JWSJ's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Cheese is one of my very favorite foods. Expensive European and South American chocolates are an indulgence I doubt I could live without. I also had a milk habit of 2-3 gallons a week until the doctor said to cut down on dairy. Realistically unless it made me extremely sick I wouldn't give it up. Just the smell of soy milk makes me gag. Almond and coconut... -
ARCHIVED Us Produced Malto Dextrin Is No Longer Safe
Adalaide replied to Oonagh's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I abhor water. I grew up drinking spring water until I was 9. We then moved to town and I discovered what bad water is. To this day I won't drink anything that isn't in a bottle from a spring. (Arrowhead and Fiji mostly) The only thing that gets me near tap water is those packets. Sad to know I can't have them anymore. One more thing that goes from really... -

Did you get to go to the sing-a-long in October (or maybe it was September) in 2010? I was just as excited then but couldn't manage to drag my husband along, which really didn't bother me at $17 a ticket. I finally bought the dvd last year and watch it at least once a month. Also... omg omg omg omg one more day. I already am like a kid Christmas Eve night... -
I'm pretty confident that the only God could possibly know what's in movie theater popcorn. Maybe it has something weird in it at your theater? Maybe cc? Maybe it was just the pound of greasy butter? I intend to have a discussion with the management at my favorite theater in the next week or two and explain that if they don't like me bringing a bag of home...

I'm in Utah too. I loved the snow we got! After last spring's serious flooding a mild winter is sounding good. This morning I'm practically walking on air. I'm making pies and cookies today and going shopping later in the afternoon. ($15 off a purchase of $15 or more is too good to pass up!) Best of all though, Beauty and the Beast (3D) will be... -
Happens to me all the time when I'm stressed. The last week has been near constant annoying twitching. It's possible of you thought you were glutened and were stressing out about it that the stress is the culprit. My doctor and eye doctor both agree that it is completely harmless no matter how obnoxious.

ARCHIVED Steps For A True Elimination Diet
Adalaide replied to JonnyD's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Out of curiosity reading through the caveman diet link it lists sea salt as the salt you can have. Living in Utah I can get salt from here (apparently it's called "real salt" as if all the other stuff is fake or something) that is amazingly cheap and if you've never had salt from here you have no idea what you're missing. I use a quarter of the amount I would... -
OMG!!! I live like 20-40 minutes from there. (Depending on the time of day and the day of the week.) That's super exciting to see there is a bakery I can go to, I've been looking for one in Orem but haven't found one down here or in Provo yet.

ARCHIVED New And Already Emotionally Exhausted

I live in Utah. There is a pizza place that says on their website that they have 10" gluten free pizzas for between $15 and $20 each. I almost fell out of my chair when I saw that. I haven't called yet to see if they make any effort at all to prevent contamination. I've worked in two take out pizza places and flour is pretty much in the air, it coats literally... -
I don't know for certain about Boar's Head but I can say they are a very reputable company and have always been quite forthcoming with information. I'm sure if you called they would let you know if they use distilled vinegar or another type that is gluten free. They make the best sauerkraut that you can buy in a store, I'd hate to realize I have to give it...

Thanks for the tip on cooking rice, I'll try that out tonight. Things are a little whacky for me at high altitude but I'll learn to adjust like I did for baking. (I get to start that experimentation all over again... joy) I'm supposed to avoid most dairy but eat yogurt every day. I'm glad to see that sauerkraut is not just amazingly delicious but good for... -
I'd be steaming too. I know it doesn't help you today, or maybe ever but I'd recommend attaching a note of some sort to your snacks. Something short, to the point and very blunt about what an awful person you have to be to not only steal someone's food but to steal the food of someone who is now forced to go hungry because there are no other options. It could...

ARCHIVED New And Already Emotionally Exhausted
Adalaide replied to Adalaide's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was at Wal-Mart just kind of browsing the appliances and saw the rice cookers. I didn't even know such a thing existed! I got really excited but decided to wait until I could do a little research and find one that is within my budget that is at least decent. I was pretty serious about my coupons before this but that meant a lot of processed foods that were... -
ARCHIVED I Feel Overwhelmed And It's Only Day 1
Adalaide replied to KotaKate88's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was waiting on my husband while he was in the bathroom at the store. (YAY!!! it wasn't me in there) Anyway, I picked up a box of Junior Mints figuring I'd end up putting them down and just a little more depressed. I got so excited when I saw they were gluten free that I almost bought a dozen boxes. It's only been a few days for me but one of my habits... -
ARCHIVED New And Already Emotionally Exhausted

That sounds like a really great set-up. We do keep a mini fridge and have a shelf for some types of snack foods that we won't have to go to the kitchen for. Sadly I found out after buying a coffee pot so I could have hot chocolate at my desk that just that one little addition will blow the circuit breaker. For some whacky reason the entire basement except... -
ARCHIVED Inconclusive Test Results For Celiac
Adalaide replied to CJC's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It really sounds like your doctor is a complete idiot. I'm quite proactive and vocal with my doctors and have never been afraid to tell them exactly what I want or need. My primary care doctor has been great over the past few years. He involves me in decisions about my health and makes sure that I stay well educated on my health issues. I would suggest you... -
ARCHIVED New And Already Emotionally Exhausted

Thanks! It's good to know I'm not totally off my rocker for crying about really stupid things. My husband's mother is trying to be helpful and supportive and as much as I love her she isn't necessarily the sharpest tool in the shed. Her husband (who is not my husband's father) is a complete nutjob to be perfectly honest. He thinks every health issue can be... -
ARCHIVED Bad Acne- What Should I Be Looking At? Help!
Adalaide replied to MitziG's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I can't really say anything about any type of sensitivities as I don't have experience with that. I also have absolutely no clue if what I use is gluten free or not but I don't get any weird reaction so I'll keep using it. After more than a decade I figured out that birth control was causing my migraines. Happily off of birth control I suddenly saw a teenage... -
ARCHIVED New And Already Emotionally Exhausted
Adalaide posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It seems like my entire marriage has been a roller coaster ride and I've been lucky to have such an amazing man at my side. A week before our first anniversary I started having random weird health issues. Two years later I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Honestly I was thrilled that someone could put a name to how awful I felt and I could start down the...
