  1. I sleep with earplugs myself, also due to my husband's incessant snoring. I swear it sounds like an army of chainsaw murderers coming to get me. I found that until I got used to earplugs I would take them out in my sleep. I still take one or both out some nights. It took some time to get the hang of getting them in just right, it's practically an art form...

    ARCHIVED Properly Arming Myself

The last thing I want to do is anger the man I let believe is in charge of my medical care. I'm a very non-confrontational person. I'm quite fortunate that my doctor encourages me to educate myself, come prepared and ask him anything at all. I even get call backs too! Who knew there was more than one doctor in the whole world who does that? I've even...
  3. Two weeks and I can't stand the stupidity that some family spouts at me. They only know because, well... they're family and I actually have to share a kitchen with some of them. "When can you eat normal food again?" "Do you have to be that picky about washing everything and what you cook in?" "A little bread won't hurt you." (To my husband...
  4. My husband and I also are quite sarcastic in our humor. My ex-husband was as well. I am quite fond of sarcasm. Now by no means is someone with any sort of health issue damaged goods. Your mother needs to mind her own business about that, if it doesn't bother you it shouldn't bother her. On the other hand, my ex-husband's sarcastic sense of humor would sometimes...

    ARCHIVED Properly Arming Myself

I'm just going to my PCP. My insurance makes it a nightmare to attempt to see a specialist, which usually results in being turned down. I also am not a fan of being treated like an intestine so I'll probably never seek an appointment with a GI. I was planning on going down to the hospital this coming week and getting a copy of all my records from my stay...

    ARCHIVED Properly Arming Myself

I have another appointment with my doctor in about 2 1/2 weeks. I've been working on a full list of symptoms (which is about a full page already), a list of what I think I should be tested for, and a list of questions to ask. I'll continue to add to all of it as things come to mind. Other than this, does anyone have any recommendations of what I need to be...
  7. I don't see a point in suffering if you don't have to. I don't even remember what it is like not to be in pain every moment of every day, even if my pain isn't the same as yours. I'm sure it's difficult to hope it will get better when it's been months with no relief. I don't know what to suggest you take, but by all means seek relief!
  8. "You're just lucky it's not lupus, cause so-and-so has lupus and it's the bad kind." .... there's a good kind of lupus?
  9. And my brother's fiance. For some sick reason she loves the snow. Another sunny day here, about 35 or so. Not exactly winter coat weather, I feel like I wasted my money on my new wool coat.
  10. When my oldest daughter was about 3 or 4 she decided she was a vegetarian. (I indulged her knowing she'd grow out of it.) Her reason? Animals have feelings. Except chickens, she could eat chicken because they don't have feelings. Maybe she was talking to your grandma?
  11. I keep a list in my purse of things I can have at Wendy's. (Mostly because Frostys are the best thing ever!) My husband can sometimes get a sudden craving for fast food and I tell him it's the only place I'll go now. I found a small frosty and a baked potato are more than enough to satisfy me. I also told him I won't plan on going out to dinner without knowing...
  12. I used to buy a lot of Yogi brand teas, they must have ingredients listed as I only drink herbal teas and always check the ingredients before buying. I had a Teavana open at the mall by my house recently and the people there are always very helpful and accommodating and know or can find out what is in their teas.
  13. It can be downright hilarious to be the only sober person in a group of drunks! Along the lines of drunk girls can not consent to sex, keep in mind that if she decides the next day that she didn't consent you could wind up in jail and labeled a sex offender the rest of your life. Not saying it'll happen, but it could. And like Skylark said, sometimes...
  14. Oh my gosh, that little vomiting guy is great! Yeah, that's pretty much my reaction to bonding moments. Can't remember the last time someone called me kiddo. I'm waaaaay too old for that.
  15. I totally share your feelings. The bonding thing is hilarious too. The only bonding I wanted to do last night was to bond her lips shut with some super glue so she'd stop.
  16. So I'm in the kitchen making supper and my mother-in-law wanders in and notices that I've baked some cookies. She asks if they are ones I can have and I say they are. She then proceeds to tell me how this woman she knows who was her neighbor back in California has some sort of wheat allergy or something (grrr... it is NOT an allergy people!) and that she...
  17. Soup does sound pretty good. I made stock from my leftover Thanksgiving turkey so all I have to do is pop that in a pot and add veggies and noodles. It's a great way to simplify winter soup.
  18. I'll keep that in mind if it's an issue. The frying pans and wok are all nearly brand new so I doubt they're scratched up but I will definitely stay away from the pots. Using scratched teflon kind of freaks me out anyway, who knows what you're putting in your body when you use those. And that's coming from a Mtn. Dew and processed foods addict. I'll...
  19. I had problems with my gallbladder for three months before I ended up with a complete blockage and emergency surgery. Because of the complete blockage I also have to have an ERCP to remove the other stone at which time the GI was concerned with what he saw apparently and he did a biopsy. I got a call a week later telling me that they thought I have celiac...
  20. This was such a great idea I decided to have burgers tonight. It never dawned on me to just wrap it in lettuce. I paired it with some tater tots. I imagine when I'm craving my sugar fix later I'll have some of my canned peaches from last fall. (I have no fear of cc because I am insane about kitchen cleanliness, especially when canning.)
  21. Thanks! I already don't use the ones with scratches but have stainless steel options for the pots. The frying pans and wok are all in beautiful condition so I'm glad I can still use them. If I had my way I wouldn't go near teflon in the first place, but it isn't my kitchen so I try to keep my not so popular ideas to myself. I'll forever kick myself for making...
  22. I feel like I'm going broke replacing so much stuff in my kitchen. Lots of things are metal and can just be cleaned and put in my safe place. I scored a set of Pyrex on Black Friday so I'm pretty well set on containers. I've picked up a few cooking utensils and such. Lots of things are plastic and wooden and most of my pans are teflon coated. How important...
  23. I can't deny that having to go gluten free totally sucks. Thankfully being in Orem helps a lot. The more I poke around the more I see that is available. What places do your friends recommend in Orem? I'd love to find some more options. Maybe something will sound more appealing than Rodizio Grill in American Fork.

    ARCHIVED Finding The Right Doctor

No matter who I end up referred to or talking to over the years I've found that I am happiest with the care I receive up at University if Utah in SLC. Not that there is anything inherently wrong with the Intermountain Healthcare system or the doctors I see, I just have always felt better cared for and more confident with U of U. If you've been referred to...
  25. I don't know much about my mother's family. Her mom died before I was old enough to learn anything and her father was adopted, I never met him. My dad's family we've traced back several hundred years to Ireland and Germany. My first ancestors came to America (Philadelphia) shortly before the American Revolution. I can proudly say that I come from a family...
