ARCHIVED Fresh Bread In Utah
Adalaide posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I finally talked myself into a $7 loaf of fresh bread today. If anyone is in Utah I suggest checking out New Grains Gluten Free Bakery in Provo. The white bread is truly white with a wonderful texture and tastes like I remember bread tasting. They also do cookies and brownies which I'm excited to try now. For anyone with some deep pockets, they do take online... -
I haven't checked my little Freya's pellets. She likes them and the brand is trusted by bun lovers around the world. They are the perfect blend of nutrients and I'm going to keep right on feeding them to her. I also buy her hay at a local farm supply store so I'm confident it will contain some traces of gluten. (Five dollars a bale that lasts 4-6 months vs...

ARCHIVED What Do You Buy From Costco, Sams?
Adalaide replied to Christine0125's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Totally forgot about them, but was super excited when I read the package in January. Costco has chicken cranberry jalapeno meatballs that are gluten free. I pop open a can of cranberry sauce (jellied or whole berry, whatever flips my fancy that day) and throw it in a pan with good measure of Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce and some brown sugar. So good on rice... -
ARCHIVED Bartenders, Why Don't You Understand?
Adalaide replied to MissHaberdasher's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I long ago quit drinking, but if I hadn't Jose would probably be my best friend. He and I used to be quite close and had a lot of good times together. I'd mix my tequila with coke, 7up or even dr. pepper on occasion, but mostly I mixed it with more Jose and a large stash of limes. -
ARCHIVED Is Heinz Ketchup Gluten Free? Van Camp's Beans?
Adalaide replied to CNV2855's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I eat Van Camp's beans with no symptoms. (Not even the dreaded gas!) I am not a ketchup fan, but have been enjoying the occasional Heinz Balsamic ketchup symptom free. It's ketchup all grown up, and it's wonderful. If a company says something is gluten free and it doesn't make me sick I'm going to go right on eating it. -
It is super overwhelming at first. There is so much to know and it all seems like so much work. The suggestion to stick with meats, veggies and fruits is a great one. I am also sure to keep a stash of safe snacks in my house so I don't cheat when I just need to grab something now. Cocoa or Fruity Pebbles cereal bars are gluten free and make great grab and...

While in theory your suggestion is great Bart, in practice I find it doesn't work out so well for me. You are making the assumption I'll be able to get a knife between the slices. So far every loaf I have purchased seems to have some sort of magical seal preventing me from sliding the knife in.

Early on the cravings were so bad I felt like I'd dry up into a prune crying so much. I spent like an hour in bed bawling like a toddler who was denied candy when I realized I'd never have KFC again. There's no way to avoid how much it sucks, but everyone here reassured me that it's normal to be generally miserable while I adjusted. Once I let myself be miserable...

On a recent trip I determined the Ragu I wanted was gluten free, nothing on the label was on my list of things to check for. Terribly awful practice, especially to start 2 months in, but I know my Classico sauces are gluten free and just pick them up without checking every time. If I had the potential to make my kid sick it would probably encourage me to...

The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
Adalaide replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I've been getting more and more adventurous lately and I think I almost enjoy cooking. I certainly enjoy eating! I love how many great ideas everyone shares here, it's really helped me overcome my fear of being a failure at cooking. Last night I made some cream soup so I could throw together a cheesy chicken rice casserole. It only took about 15 minutes... -
ARCHIVED Kitchen Space
Adalaide replied to bikerhaustx's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My kitchen looks like Noah's ark. Everything two by two, side by side. Instead of the monster round deep fryer my husband loved so much we bought two smaller rectangular ones that nestle nicely in a corner taking up less space than before. I keep almost buying a toaster, my husband says to get 2 when I do but instead I'm considering a 4 slice and just marking... -
That's brilliant! I'll see if this doesn't help save me some worry about how many fingers I'll have left after prying a few slices off. I could add years to my life avoiding the stress.

ARCHIVED Naming A Gluten Free Baked Goods Business
Adalaide replied to fenifur's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I know a name can help to initially attract people and is extremely important. There are two semi-local gluten free bakeries near me. One is "New Grains Gluten Free Bakery" and they sell bread and some baked goodies in many local grocery stores with only "New Grains" standing out on the labels. The other is "Eleanor's Bakeshop" which obviously gives no clue... -
ARCHIVED What Do You Buy From Costco, Sams?
Adalaide replied to Christine0125's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My MILK brought a rotisserie chicken home from Costco last week that was gluten free. It's little simple things that make me happy. She also brought home some maple sunrise cereal that is delicious. It's a nice crunchy breakfast that's good with some fresh or dried fruit added. (I want to say the brand is Nature's something or other, I don't feel like trekking... -
ARCHIVED Tracing The Cause Of Sudden Symptoms
Adalaide replied to sleer's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'd guess it's the capers. Sure, it could be the dressing, or you could be developing another intolerance but I always assume the easiest explanation is probably also correct. That would be agreeing with Lisa that they fried the capers in a deep fryer they use for all sorts of breaded goodies. They do sound heavenly, I may fry some up myself for my next salad... -
Thanks, I don't know why I didn't think of just steaming the veggies. I can't say I've been terribly sharp lately. I refuse to feed him junk. My husband suggested things like canned pastas. Other than the fact that it would lead to needing a bath, I just don't want to feed him that kind of crap. (His mom did mention one of his favorite foods is boxed mac...

There is an UGO's Pizzeria in Harrison, AR that offers gluten free pizzas. I am wondering if anyone has had any experience with them. I have a daughter in the area and would love to be able to recommend this place to her. (Her father tried to feed her a "polenta pizza" which she said was positively awful, it sounds dreadful even to me and I love polenta....

ARCHIVED Rice Cooker And Pressure Cooker?
Adalaide replied to Mrs. M.'s topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
If you can cook rice, I wouldn't waste money on a rice cooker. On the other hand, I can't cook rice. Sure some people find it easy but I have wasted a lot of rice trying and trying to cook it. I finally gave up and just got a rice cooker. I'm much happier with my dinners now that I have rice that doesn't suck. -
I'm going to start babysitting my cousin who just turned one. It has been about 15 years since I fed little kids and I hardly remember what to feed them. I know that babies don't eat much so I won't make him anything different than I make for myself. Since we'll be eating together and babies are messy it's just safer for me for him to eat gluten free lunches...

Neither of those should be an issue since she mentioned getting Coke Zero. I haven't looked up the ingredients but I am assuming that zero calories = zero corn syrup. There also isn't any corn syrup in the Izze soda, it doesn't have any sweeteners.

I have a 17 year old daughter who was the most awful baby ever. She cried nonstop for months. We tried all sorts of formulas thinking this that or some other thing was causing her problems but nothing helped. She had bowel issues her whole life. After talking about my diagnosis she went gluten free and for the first time in her life is beginning to feel healthy...

I haven't had any issues from Coke or any other colas, although to my knowledge so far I don't have any additional food allergies or interferences. I do love Izze sodas though, they're pretty much carbonated water and juice with no additional sweetener.

ARCHIVED Crock Pot Contamination
Adalaide replied to Mom2Will's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Then feed the cat to the dog. Then the dog goes gluten free. Problem solved! Seriously though, if my husband's cat wasn't already an outdoor cat it would have become one or gone gluten free when I did. The idea of a cat licking the gluten all over his whole body then laying all over the house makes my skin crawl. Then again if I share furniture with... -
ARCHIVED I Can't Get A Diagnoses Other Than Ibs....so Frustrating
Adalaide replied to lizzybeth's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I wouldn't trust a negative blood test. I had my first blood test done while when I had an ERCP after several days of not eating at all. A single biopsy came back positive but that blood test and one done about a week or two later were both negative. The biopsy report was pretty conclusive, stating that the damage is consistent with celiac. On top of my insurance... -
ARCHIVED Winco Pasta
Adalaide replied to Adalaide's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It was in the bulk section, maybe there it's over the counter. Here in Utah the bulk section is all self serve. Just fill up your own bags and mark them with the appropriate bin number. Be careful to make sure you are getting the gluten free stuff since they also sell regular pasta the same way. The varieties I remember seeing were elbows, white rice elbows...
