ARCHIVED Bread That Feels And Tastes Just Like Bread
Adalaide replied to Adalaide's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You can't order directly from the website, but you can contact them via email listed on their website to make a purchase. I'll either head to the store later tonight (although that isn't likely as I'm already in my jammies) or on Monday to pick up a box of bread and see if I can make it turn out as awesome as it was at the event. I'm excited to have PB&... -
ARCHIVED Bread That Feels And Tastes Just Like Bread
Adalaide posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Today I enjoyed some time at a gluten free food fair. There were a lot of local and sort of local companies there with samples, I got to try a lot of really amazing foods. I also got to smile politely and choke down a few things that were just horrible. I came home with frozen cookie dough from a company that also makes killer frozen pizzas. So far though... -
I must be weird. I know that there is not gluten in the smell of something, which leads me to standing by the bakery at the grocery store just to smell everything or opening the door to the donuts and just reveling in the scent. I also gave up coffee about 5 years ago and will just stand with my eyes closed as if I'm in heaven when I'm in that aisle. I'm...

ARCHIVED More Restaurants Refusing To Accommodate
Adalaide replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I can't imagine suing over being glutened from eating out. It's a risk I know I take if I eat outside my house. I think a lot of us here feel the same. It's the nuts we have to worry about. -
So far I've only entertained once since going gluten free. We did a leg of lamb, salad and veggies which are all naturally gluten free. Since the couple we invited over has two small boys I also made some gluten free mac and cheese, knowing that it would be a hit with the kiddos. I also made gluten free brownies and we had brownie sundaes for dessert. The...

ARCHIVED Tom O'bryan & Cyrex Laboratories
Adalaide replied to Feral Boy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
IMO chiropractors really have no business preaching or practicing medicine. They don't have a medical degree but frequently make claims that imply they do. I have, for as long as I can remember, called the quack-er-practors because for all the claims they make, they're frequently quacks. (Not saying there aren't good and responsible ones, just that all I... -
ARCHIVED Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzels
Adalaide replied to Adalaide's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I pretty much use dark chocolate for everything. If it doesn't taste peanut-buttery enough you can always add some peanut butter oil for flavor. I have a local baking supply store that sells it and lots of other interesting flavors but I'm sure it's available online too and isn't any more expensive than good vanilla. -
ARCHIVED Relationships And Invisible Illnesses
Adalaide replied to Jestgar's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My MIL still honestly believes that I'm simply lazy. Because yes, I totally want to have my husband come home from work to hear me tell him he's on his own for dinner. Nevermind that there are days I can't hold my head up even to sit and watch TV or read. I know there are other family members who simply think it's all in my head. Fortunately they keep those... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else Diagnosed With Fibromyalgia Before Going Gluten Free?
Adalaide replied to Jamie10's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
With a lack of answers my doctor eventually called it fibro and we tried a couple of different medications with little to no benefit from them. At four months gluten free I can say that as long as I take it easy I have about as many good days as bad, which is a significant improvement. My ANA has always come back on the high side of normal and my doctor refuses... -
ARCHIVED Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzels
Adalaide replied to Adalaide's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Kareng, I melt chocolate on the stove because deep down I must be a masochist. Once it's all melty and smooth I just start plopping in peanut butter a spoonful at a time until I like the flavor. I've also toyed with the idea of using peanut butter chips and drizzling that on top but it seems like a pointless extra step. I loved the huge fat pretzels and miss... -
ARCHIVED Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzels
Adalaide replied to Adalaide's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
That's great if sticking to whole foods works for you. It's not for me. (I have no desire to get into a debate about this, just period, not for me, it is beyond impossible for me to be swayed.) There are many different ways to deal with different illnesses and for me, part of how I've been sane the past four months is finding gluten free alternatives to some... -
I got so excited when I saw the headline that I was pretty pissy when I saw that they come right out and say they make zero effort to even try to keep it safe for anyone. I emailed them saying as much. While the effort could be commendable, they clearly are bandwagoning for profit and don't give a hoot about whether or not it's safe.

I won't eat out without checking out a restaurant's website first. I want to be sure that corporate policies are in place that I'm comfortable with. After that I speak with the staff to be sure I'm confident in their knowledge and ability. On top of that, I accept that I may simply get sick. There is one Wendy's I'll eat at that has a pretty good staff and...

ARCHIVED Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzels
Adalaide replied to Adalaide's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I used Snyder's pretzels which aren't salt free. I did an entire bag of the ones that look like little pretzels and half a bag of sticks. I crave salt morning, noon and night so I actually put sea salt on them before the chocolate got hard. If you can have salt, Snyder's pretzels are absolutely amazing. So much better than the Glutino ones and certified gluten... -

ARCHIVED Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzels
Adalaide posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
So I've found myself scrambling at the last minute to stock up on piles and piles of easy or ready to eat food and snacks for next Tuesday. (Yeah, I'm a dork but life stops in my house for Diablo 3.) I bought a whole bunch of Snyder's pretzels but decided that I'd get sick of the same thing all the time. So I've been spending my morning making chocolate-peanut... -
ARCHIVED Better Batter Flour
Adalaide replied to zus888's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Bisquick pancakes and waffles are meh, but edible. The biscuits are awful. It does make okay dumplings for soup that I like okay. There are two things I swear by it for though, a fruit coffee cake and a coconut pie. Both are absolutely amazing and I can't get enough of either. I keep almost making that chicken but then just grilling instead. -
ARCHIVED May Is Celiac Awareness Month
Adalaide replied to jess-gf's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
A local chain of stores which keeps dieticians on staff is having a series of events to educate people, including cooking and baking classes. On top of that they're having month long sales on all sorts of goodies. I know where I'll be shopping all month! I'll get to try so many things I've thought of trying but just been too cheap to bother with out of fear... -
Today is four months gluten free for me and I find that over the last few weeks I barely notice any more. I enjoy my gluten free pasta and bread. Yesterday I finally found Snyder's gluten free pretzels (on sale for $2!!!) and they're so good that even my husband is a fan of them. He's not only a gluten eater but is quite possibly the world's pickiest eater...

ARCHIVED How Would You Handle This Situation?
Adalaide replied to Calmom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I wish I could get my husband gluten free, but the odds of that happening are about the same as the odds of a zombie apocalypse. I won't buy anything from a shared facility and at home I mildly worse than insane about the kitchen and my stuff. No one ever even touches any of my dishes. When I cook or even wash I'll clean everything with a new clean rag, twice... -
ARCHIVED How Would You Handle This Situation?
Adalaide replied to Calmom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
After just a few months I'm already aware that I have to steer clear of anything made in a shared facility. I get to be super sensitive, I'm so lucky. I'm surprised at this point that I don't get sick when the word gluten passes my lips. Last month, for the first time, I had friends over and made dinner. I'm banking on the fact that the couple has a baby... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Chocolate Cake
Adalaide replied to JoyfulGF's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
So far my only cake has been Hodgson whichI actually just made yesterday. I topped it with chocolate almond frosting. When I was brave enough to taste it prepared to throw the whole thing away if it sucked I was pleasantly surprised that it tasted like cake! So either I don't remember what cake is really supposed to taste like or it's exceptional. (And their... -
ARCHIVED Seasonal Allergies Better?!?!?
Adalaide replied to BabsV's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I sure hope that my allergies clear up some for next spring. This year is far worse than usual for pollen here and I'm totally feeling it. If I miss a single dose of my medication I'll be stuffy and have a killer headache for days. For the first time in years my eyes are itchy despite the medication. I'll cross my fingers for next year. -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
Adalaide replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Grilled a trout and some corn on the cob tonight. For some really stupid reason I can't fathom I touched the foil and have a rather large and painful blister right on the end of my right index finger. -
ARCHIVED I Can Not Believe I Felt Like This And Functioned For Years!
Adalaide replied to cahill's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I got got this week too. I felt so weird and foggy I wouldn't even drive, I was like yeah, that wouldn't be safe. I was driving for several years in that fog. I wonder now how I didn't kill myself or even end up in some sort of accident.
