gluten free diet for 1 year old

My mother and aunt were both diagnosed with celiac 5 years ago and both healed (follow-up biopsy done). They follow a strict gluten free diet in spite of its difficulty where we live.

I got tested for antibodies (twice) and gene test and both were negative. However i carry DQ2.2, and my youngest son got DQ2.2 from me and DQ7.5 from his father, so he has celiac gene DQ2.5trans/DQ2trans which predisposes him to celiac. I have done plenty of research !

with his grandmother's diagnosis, i am really torn on what to do. I did introduce gluten to his diet at around 7 months (but only like 2 to 3 times a week once a day wheat cereal).

He does not have any symptoms and given that blood test is unreliable at his age, i am having him tested once his immune system develops and tests are more reliable.

However, i do not know what to do now to minimize his risk ! he has been mostly gluten free since he was 9 months old (he is 1 year and 2 months now). I read in an article that the amount of gluten intake at this age affects his risk, so i have minimized it to like once every two weeks or so. I am afraid that if i let him go completely gluten free and let him eat gluten later on when he goes to school (again minimum gluten) that his body will not accept gluten and he will get Celiac because he is not used to gluten ! i know it may sound ridiculous, but i can't help but worry.

do you think if i let him go gluten free now and introduce minimum gluten at age 5 or so his body will not have a negative reaction due to this and i would actually end up increasing his chances of Celiac rather than decreasing it ?

anybody with children who are gene positive but no celiac ?

i would appreciate your input, and people over here think i am just crazy !

Here are some recent guidelines from a good source.  Sounds like you are doing the right thing by giving him some gluten but not too much.

Welcome to the forum, @SuzanneL! Which tTG was that? tTG-IGA? tTG-IGG? Were there other celiac antibody tests run from that blood draw? Was total IGA measured? By some chance were you already cutting back on gluten by the time the blood draw was taken or just not eating much? For the celiac antibody tests to be accurate a person needs to be eating about 10g of gluten daily which is about 4-6 pieces of bread.

I've recently received a weak positive tTG, 6. For about six years, I've been sick almost everyday. I was told it was just my IBS. I have constant nausea. Sometimes after I eat, I have sharp, upper pain in my abdomen. I sometimes feel or vomit (bile) after eating. The doctor wanted me to try a stronger anti acid before doing an endoscopy. I'm just curious if these symptoms are pointing towards Celiac Disease?

I'm sorry to hear about what you're going through. It must be really frustrating and uncomfortable. Have you talked to your healthcare provider about these sudden sweating episodes? It might be helpful to discuss this with them to rule out any other underlying issues or to see if there are specific strategies or treatments that can help manage this symptom. Additionally, staying hydrated and wearing breathable clothing may provide some relief.
