Mcdonalds In Canada

Recommended Posts

I posted a long item about McDonalds in Canada, and the fries in particular. There is much debate about whether the fires contain gluten. Here's a link to my recent post:

Thank you for that Peter! A few of us Celiacs in the area meet regularly at McDonalds. We have both checked the ingredients and the un-likely possiblility of contamination and have had no problems with the fries. It's a very handy place to meet for coffee and fries, without hassle.

McDonalds in Canada has issued an official statement responding to the media reports in the US. It is posted on the Canadian Celiac Association's web site. Here is a link to the pdf version:

http://www.celiac.ca/PDFs/McDonalds%20Stmt%20Feb%202006.pdf

It says:

McDonald’s Restaurants of Canada Limited

Statement

Wednesday, February 15, 2006

There has been some recent Canadian verbatim media pick up of two stories originating in the US on McDonald’s French fries. These stories pertain to the trans fat content of US French fries and the wheat and dairy derivatives in the flavouring component of the frying oil used in the US restaurants. Please be assured that these two stories DO NOT apply to McDonald’s Canada.

Our frying oil is different, therefore trans fat levels are lower than the US, and the oil does not contain the flavouring mentioned, or any wheat or dairy derivatives.

Should you have any questions, please contact our media relations hotline at 1-877-786-3342.

Since this is an official statement, I doubt their legal department would have let it be released if it had not been verified.

Well dang, tell our McDonalds to import the oil then! Seesh!
