Im not sure if im posting this in the right place....but heres my question.

Ever since my DX in Dec Ive had bronchitis, then a cold, now it moved to my sinuses, and I think I have a sinus infection. Im going to the doc tomorrow and I think hes going to give me antibiotics. 2 questions...

Should i be taking a probiotic with my antibiotic? ive seen a lot of talk about it here...Ive taken antibiotics before but not recently. my pedi used to tell me just to eat a lot of yogurt with my antibiotics, which made sense....

ALso I have not been this sick in a long time, is it typical to get all this stuff, it seems like i just cant shake it off. ive also started a new office enviornment which i could also contribute it too...

Hey Moongirl,

You're from boston? I'm from the Cape. As for why you keep getting sick and can't shake it off, I'm not sure what to say. Hopefully your doctor will have an answer. Maybe your immune system is just down. I took probiotics (acidopholus) when I had Lyme Disease because I was on antibiotics for a month. I felt much better when I took the probiotics. Antibiotics can cause yeast infections, so I think that's why doctors recommend yogurt. If you don't eat lots of yogurt, then maybe you should ask your doctor about taking acidopholus.

Hey Jen,

Yes i live right outside of boston, about 15-20mins, i love it! I used to go to the cape almost every summer. we had a place in dennisport. Im going to yarmouth this summer too, i love it there!

Well the good thing is ive never had any problems with yeast infections, and i did take a lot of antibiotics when i was younger i used to have strep throat and ear infections a lot, i had my tonsils taken out and it took care of everything. I guess with my digestive system healing right now, im not sure if it can handle the antibiotics....i love yogurt, but i didnt know if that was enough?

Eat lots of yogurt. I reccommend Cascade Fresh, it has 8 live cultures. Good luck!

My local megamart has the big tub of plain, but I've seen it at wild oats or sun harvest.

Wow, your original post could have been written by me only we've (my now retired ENT/Allergist and I) been trying to figure out what's wrong for almost 4 years! I has some type of respiratory infection just about every 6 weeks. He gave me ever increasing dosages (until I was up to 4000mg per day) of antibiotics each and every time plus prednisone. Those always cleared up the infection (at least in the beginning), but I really believe they created a sort of cycle. I've also never had yeast infections. We explored several theories on the increase infections, including candida and low thyroid...we didn't get around to Celiac, but may have if he hadn't retired. Anyway, he told me a good reputable probiotic was a good idea. He also said I could eat yogurt, which I did, but can't now because of the casein intolerance.

I just kind of take the probiotic all the time really.

I think we all need probiotics personally, whether we're on antibiotics or not!

Constantly! I don't want everything to cost as much as a KIND bar, as great as they are.  Happy most of the info is available to us to make smart decisions for our health, just need to do a little more research.

Be sure to keep eating gluten daily until all testing is completed.  Here is more info about how to do a gluten challenge for a celiac disease blood panel, or for an endoscopy: and this recent study recommends 4-6 slices of wheat bread per day:

You can always to the gluten challenge later, after your pregnancy, should you need a formal diagnosis. I think it's best to play it safe in this case.

Very true. I also suffered from candidiasis which had affected my intestines and toes. I think this might have triggered my gluten intolerance/celiac.

Welcome to the forum community, @Jesmar! The HLA DQ2 and DQ8 genes were the original halotypes identified with the potential to develop celiac disease. Since then, other genes have been discovered that apparently afford a predisposition to celiac disease. As is always the case, these new discoveries are not yet common knowledge and not yet widely dispersed in the medical community. It is not genetically as black and white as we once thought.
