Really Scary Experience

Yesterday afternoon I had a philly steak sandwhich(no bun) from a place that is aware of my condition and tries really hard to fix my food. About half an hour after eating I felt the familiar rumble. I went to the bathroom and realized that I was going to be awhile so I left work and went home. After several trips to the bathroom, and (sorry) vomitting once I went to stand up and all my muscles started shaking to the point I had to hold on to the walls to get to the bedroom. I sat on the side of the bed and wondered what was going on. I looked at the clock and it was 3:32, the phone rang and it was my son checking on me. He said "Well I'll let you get back to sleep." I looked at the clock because I hadn't been sleeping and it was 4:05. I don't know if I passed out, fell asleep, or what. The rest of the eving I was weak and didn't eat. Any ideas???

Hope you're better this a.m. Sounds like you got glutened big time. Don't know about all of your symptoms, but it does sound like it was a shock to your system.

I am still pretty weak but better. Thanks. I want to feel better for supper b/c it's our 26th anniversary and we have big plans.

i feel like this when glutend but am not phisically sick. if these are your regular symptoms of glutening dont worry you will return to normal soon otherwise if its not you may have some food poisoning, go to your doc if you are unsure.

Weird. Something similar happened to me a few weeks ago. I started getting really weak and confused and could barely make it up the stairs to my apartment. Then I started shaking uncontrollably and was freezing cold even though it was in the 90s that day. I threw up and then pretty much passed out because I felt like I was going to die. The next day I stayed home from work because I felt like I was recovering from the flu. Not sure if this is the same thing. I couldn't trace it back to gluten and I never react to gluten like that so I have no idea.

Sounds similar. I was cold too and wrapped up in a blanket with it 98 outside.

Jenny, that sounds more like food poisoning to me than a gluten reaction. But since it came back out both ends in a big hurry :blink: you may have gotten rid of whatever it was quick, and will probably be better soon. I hope you'll be okay for your anniversary celebration!

Actually, if you have severe diarrhea combined with vomiting than you could develop hypokalemia, which is potentially serious. Next time it happens I would go to the E.R. for fluid and electrolytes replacement.....although you could have just been tired/dehydrated.

I would say gluten except for the weak muscles thing. I agree with Ursula, it sounds more like food poisoning than anything. Hope you are feeling better this morning.

      My dad had an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm. Fortunately, it was discovered during an exam. The doctor could feel my dad's heart beating in his stomach/abdomen.       You have an odd story there. To me, the mechanical trigger suggests a mechanical problem and lower leg pain is a classic sciatica symptom. The fact that the clear mechanical linkage is no longer there does not take away from the fact that it was - maybe something shifted and the simple alignment is no longer there.       Oddly this effect has gone now, just happened yesterday evening, the nerve pain is now back to its usual "unpredictable" random self again - but that was the only time I ever had some mechanical trigger for it, don't know why! There's no (or wasn't) actual pain in my neck - it was inside the leg, but when I looked down, now though, the leg pain just comes...

There's also a good chance I am wrong and it's something else entirely. @Scott Adams's mention of shingles is interesting. It seems possible but unlikely to me, but who knows. However, I am writing here to reinforce the idea of getting the shingles vaccine. Ask anyone who has ever had shingles and they will bend your ear telling you how bad it is. I watched my wife go through it and it scared the bejeebers out of me. Even if you had the chicken pox vaccine, you really want to get the shingles vaccine.

      I had MRI scan a few years ago showing everything normal, and now it's no longer triggering the nerve pain when I bow my head today - it only seemed to happen yesterday, and that was the only time it happened! Just seemed weird as no movement has caused my usual nerve pain before. It's normally just random.
