Wow...

Well YAY and HAPPY DANCE to the healing, and

*sniffle* to the getting rid of Yeast and soy. (I'm still mourning the soy myself...)

I'm thrilled for you that your intestines appear to be getting better. Now imagine how much better they'll be soy and yeast free. :)

(All I can say is Enjoy Life chocolate chips. Those suckers are saving my life... ;) )

Congratulations on getting your numbers down!! That is great news!

Enjoy Life chips are great!

AndreaB Contributor

Woohoo!

Your malabsorption numbers are great......all better. :D

We won't talk about the other stuff.;)

Matilda,

How exciting for you! Have you noticed a weight gain now that you are absorbing better?

Funny that you posted this today...I was wondering about it and was gonna pm you to see if you'd gotten the resuklts.

Bummer about the yeast and soy though. :(

I was neg. for everything but gluten....when I tested for yeast and egg they didnt have soy or I would've ordered that one too. Did they just recently start testing soy?

Anyways, I cant have yeast or eggs anyway but its definately not IgA. The eggs is a sulfur thing....dont know about yeast...I just dont eat it.

I wonder what my malabsorption score would say now....I've gained 15 lbs. back since my first test. I'm also maintaining my weight instead of going back and forth like I used to. My first score was 912...I'm betting if I tested today it would be in the normal range or close to it. :)

I dont think in my case I've healed though. I think I just learned which foods to avoid because my body cant process them for whatever reason....stopping all supplements also helped tremdously....thats actually when I really started to gain some weight.

If I had the money I would experiment. Do a test now that I'm not losing weight and having normal stools...then eat some of the foods I dont do well with (avocado, yams, oils, eggs, etc) for a week or two. If I did this I would lose weight and have loose stools. I wonder if there would be a significant change in the results??

If I didnt have a gazzillion other things to pay for right now I'd do it....for the sake of scientifness and to end my own curiosity.

Congrats and keep up the good work! :D

Definitely worth speaking to your gastroenterologist about this. My own told me that by using Gaviscon a barrier forms over the contents of the stomach and stops gas and acid irritating the throat.  In fact, he said to me that because I found relief using Gaviscon that was a very clear indicator that reflux was the cause of that particular issue.   A wedge pillow will really help with this - or raising the top bed legs with bricks.

I did get the pneumonia vaccine about 4 years ago. I had this amazing allergist who did all those vitamin deficiencies test and told to get that vaccine. Unfortunately she retired.  I haven’t been to an allergist in a few years,  I’m not sure what my levels are now. I did have a pulmonologist who wasn’t concern and said I seemed fine to him that I was young etc. But yes I think I should at the very least get a different opinion. Thank you for your reply

Yes I do have acid reflux. I’m not on anything for it at the moment. I sometimes wonder if that’s what it could be because I get heart burn every night. I may revisit my gastrointestinal doctor again. Thanks for the reply

Hi @HelloFlowersGoodbyeFlour I wonder if you suffer from reflux, as if you do, you may find it could also be irritating your airways.  I shall explain: I have to use a blue inhaler from time to time, and it seems to be related to reflux.  Never had any trouble before my coeliac diagnosis, the reflux seemed to be something that developed following a holiday to France in 2019, where I had been exposed to gluten.    The reflux continued into the autumn and winter, my throat itched to begin with, particularly after meals, but it then that feeling of irritation seemed to spread to my lungs.  I even found it difficult to breathe on occasion. What stopped it in its tracks was using a wedge pillow at night, following a reflux diet (you can find them online), not eating 2-4 hours before bed and also having a dose of Gaviscon Advanced at night, which forms a barrier so that acid/food can't go back up your esophagus.  The throat irritation faded, and then I found it easier to breathe again. Just mentioning in case it could be a contributing factor.

Since initially getting your D checked a few years ago, has it since rebounded to normal levels? Sounds like at some point you got it checked again.
