Hi all,

I am on day 6 of eating gluten again and look about 8 months pregnant and feel awful.

I ate bread at first but if Candida then yeast would agrevate it. Now eating multigrain porrige and ryitas for lunch and tum is still massive and I get these crampy period type pains. Ive also noticed I do have BM but they arent D they are just big!!

Becuase I havent got D I am getting paranoid that maybe this isnt celiac??

I also get facial swelling does any one get that at all??

I am in an awful situation I have just started working for the NHS and they have told me to make myself ill ready for biopsy and I am worried about my new job. I have tried to go in and my boss doesnt really understand I dont thik as she said dont worry we will get you better here you are why dont use try these suppot tights they may help??????????

Been to docs this am as off work and said what am I supposed to do I couldnt go in and start moving sick people etc as I fel to ill.. He gave me a certificate to stay off work for two weeks but I am so worried...

Firstly, I think you already have a diagnosis - via the diet!

Second, not having D doesn't mean much if anything. Everyone has their own unique set of reactions, and many have C, D, or neither. Try not to look for an exact match to any one person. You'll likely share various symptoms with different people.

If you want to continue to eat gluten, suppose you just have a tiny bit? From what I've read, the antibodies will remain for several days, so as long as the immune system is on the offense, I would hope a small amount of gluten would "keep the charge going" as it were. I'm not an expert in this, but that's my understanding.

Thanks rice guy...

I know you all prob think I am mad doing this but I am still doubting its celiac even whilst doing the gluten challenge as I was being treated for candida before I am aware I get different reactions with sugar & gluten!!!

Ive been cutting out sugar and yeast and when I do have them thats when i get major depression and really sick..however I did follow the anticandida diet for 7 months strictly and the bloat didnt go completley what so ever and she did say I must have a nother problem stopping it going ....

Mind you Ive only had a small bowel of wheat flakes this am bloating is massive got a really bad headache..but when I have lunch with a few ryvitas my tum gets so massive I feel like I am going to

explode.

Yeah I know what your saying about not eating much but I have been informed by the celiac society to eat 4 slices of bread (min) a day to damage the villi for 6 weeks. So, I dont want to go through all this and havent done enough damage seems silly to risk that aswell. Ive tried not eating anything gluten after lunch but still have the symtoms in the morning I suppose it continues longer than just the same day.

Have a nice day thanks for posting nice to feel people want to share this horrible mess we are all in.

I think you should take legal advice... CAB for free? just to make sure you know your rights if this gets tough...

They might be doing you a favour or think they are or it could be a double edged sword... read on...to the end to prevent jumping to conclusions.

I'm pretty certain that they can't force you to eat gluten against your will, indeed worded the correct way it would amount to deliberatly poisioning someone. Bear this in mind...as you read on...

Celiac is a commercial business in the UK, the NHS pays way over the odds for gluten-free food for prescription, about 4-5 times the going rate in a supermarket for the same thing. Many NHS trusts are trying to crack down on the amount but not the cost???

Secondly CUK is a "charity" that shares office space, directors etc. with "The coeliac trading company" which is NOT a charity...

Don't take my word, you can do a search at companies house on the internet...

The directors are presumably paid as well for consultancy ...

CUK advises the NHS....

Next CUK only accepts biopsy proven coelaics... this flies in the face of current research...

Please take some time to read up.... these are real medical papers...

Also: Follow-Up to the Catassi Study -- Scandinavia

Colin, et al, published a follow-up study to the Catassi (Coeliac Disease in the Year 2000:Exploring the Iceberg - University of Ancona, Italy) in the Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology 28(7):595-8, 1993, which demonstrated that approximately one third of the patients from the Catassi Study who had raised antibodies but no villous atrophy, did have villous atrophy when tested two years later. These results raise the number of diagnosed celiacs from the Catassi, et al study to over 1 in 200.

"Neurologic manifestations of gluten sensitivity are a scientific fact, not a theological issue. Whilst the debate continues, we owe it to our patients to screen them effectively for gluten sensitivity with the simple widely available antigliadin antibody test so that we do not in the meantime deprive them of a harmless but potentially effective treatment in the form of a gluten-free diet."

In other words they could be damaging you, even giving you organ damage that is never repairable, neurological damage etc.

@Aretaeus Cappadocia and @Russ H thank you both for your helpful advice and information. I haven't seen a GI in years. They never helped me aside from my inital diagnosis. All other help has come from my own research, which is why I came here. I will be even more careful in the future.

@nancydrewandtheceliacclue, you are welcome. After looking at this thread again, I would like to suggest that some of the other comments from @Russ H are worth following up on. The bird-bread may or may not be contributing to what you are experiencing, but it seems unlikely to be the whole story. If you have access to decent healthcare, I would write down your experiences and questions in outline form and bring this to your Dr. I suggest writing it down so you don't get distracted from telling the Dr everything you want to say while you have their attention.

@Russ H, I partly agree and partly disagree with you. After looking at it again, I would say that the slick graphic I posted overestimates the risk. Your math is solid, although I find estimates of gluten in white bread at 10-12% rather than the 8% you use. Somewhat contradicting what I wrote before, I agree with you that it would be difficult to ingest 10 mg from flinging bread.  However, I would still suggest that @nancydrewandtheceliacclue take precautions against exposure in this activity. I'm not an expert, I could easily be wrong, but if someone is experiencing symptoms and has a known exposure route, it's possible that they are susceptible to less than 10 mg / day, or it is possible that there is/are other undetected sources of exposure that together with this one are causing problems. At any rate, I would want to eliminate any exposure until symptoms are under control before I started testing the safety of potentially risky activities. Here is another representation of what 10 mg of bread would look like. https://www.glutenfreewatchdog.org/news/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/10mgGlutenCrumbsJules.jpg Full article that image came from: https://www.glutenfreewatchdog.org/news/what-does-10-mg-of-gluten-look-like/

@Aretaeus Cappadocia thank you for your reply and the link, that is very helpful to get a visual of just how small of an amount can cause a reaction. I know I am not consuming gluten or coming into contact with gluten from any other source. I will stop touching/tossing bread outside! My diet has not changed, and I do not have reactions to the things I am currently eating, which are few in number. My auto immune reaction just seems so severe. The abdominal pain is extreme. It takes a lot out of me. I guess I will be this way for the rest of my life if I ever happen to come into contact with gluten? I appreciate the help.

Thankyou I did find out the Infectious disease is the route to go rather than dermatologist. I did reach out to two major hospitals and currently waiting on approval for one of them in Infectious Diseases to call me. I also did have implants ( I didn't know and sense not properly in my medical. Neither did surgeon)in 2006 and there was a leak 2023 during the same time I was dealing with covid, digestive issues, eyes and skin.Considering I " should  be fine" not consuming gluten/wheat, taking vitamins for sibo and STILL feeling terrible. It has to be parasites. I also take individual eye drops prescribed, could there be an issue there? Anyways my pcp thinks I need therapy because again they don't acknowledge my digestive issues because in my records it shows im fine, hintz the reason I had to go back to bay area hospital:(  I thought skin issues maybe sibo related but I feel and have seen and seriously trying not to think about it because it's disgusting.
