Test For Celiac

Recommended Posts

I have been wondering about something. About 4 years ago I ask my doctor to check me for Celiacs disease. It might have been 3 years ago. He had me get bloodwork and said it came back negative for celiacs. I was looking through old test results and found about that time I had bloodwork IGG, IGM, IGA. The test IGA came back positive. The doctor said it only had to do with mucus memebrane and nothing else was mentioned. I noticed looking up celiac information somewhere it said something about IGA. I ask a different doctor for test for IGG, IGM, IGA and he never called me back and said there were any positive results. I know those test check all different kinds of thing so it might not mean anything 3 years ago. I don't know what the actual test the doctor did for celiac. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Linda,

So u had a neg test too.

Well so did I and a neg biopsy...but I have DH and get severe Diha, and hives from injesting gluten or other wheat products (dr.DXD me with DH says yes it is celiac disease now )

Just trying to say test can be neg and u still have it cuz we do, the best way we found out was to to the Gluten challenge <_<

do u need test to prove it or could u just DX urself?

my hubby's job requires him to have it on paper so he has gene testing done, cuz he says no way is he going back to eating gluten for no one :0

Best of luck to ya !

I think I'd go back to these doctors and ask for copies of my medical history and test results while you were under their care. It's your health, you have to own it.

That may mean calling the doc's office at least twice a week until you get an answer. That may mean doing your research on a website like this one to interpret the results so you'll know if a doc is brushing you off. But you can't check their interpretation of the test results until you have the numbers in front of you.

After you get copies of your test results and have done your research, you need to go to a doc and discuss your case and possibly a referral to a GI doc (if your PC doc isn't up on GI issues).

p.s. I'm not trying to say you aren't doing some of this but everyone needs copies of all medical history and tests. That helps you find out if a health problem is a trend or a fad and it can be critical in spotting how long something might have been a problem.
