Enterolab Gene Panel Results Help Please?

Can you help me sort this out. Does this mean i am still getting gluten in my diet somewhere? How do you read the gene portion?

Fecal Antigliadin IgA 122 (Normal Range <10 Units)

Fecal Antitissue Transglutaminase IgA 69 Units (Normal Range <10 Units)

Quantitative Microscopic Fecal Fat Score <300 Units (Normal Range <300 Units)

Fecal anti-casein (cow's milk) IgA antibody 48 Units (Normal Range <10 Units)

HLA-DQB1 Molecular analysis, Allele 1 0201

HLA-DQB1 Molecular analysis, Allele 2 0302

Serologic equivalent: HLA-DQ 2,3 (Subtype 2,8)


28 yr old Male

Diagnosed Celiac in February 2007

Gluten-free/Casein Free

HLA DQ 2,3 Subtype (2,8) I have both celiac genes!

Married

1 child 9 months- Levi

Yeast/Bacteria overgrowth

It might mean you are getting gluten or it might mean that you haven't been gluten-free long enough for the antibody levels to drop. Without an earlier test you can't tell.

Enterolab should have included an explanation of the genetic results. You have one "celiac gene" and one "gluten sensitivity" gene. You can't infer anything just from the genes, however. People have these genes without problems, too.


McDougall diet (low fat vegan) since 6/00

Gluten free since 1/6/07

Soy free and completely casein and egg free since 2/15/07

Yeast free, on and off, since 3/1/07 -- I can't notice any difference one way or the other

Which one is the celiac gene and which one is the gluten sensitivity gene? Is my gene type the one with more neuro problems

DQ 2 and DQ 8 are the "celiac genes." Everything else is considered by Enterolab to be a gluten sensitivity gene except for DQ 4, which is largely found in Asian populations I believe.

The gluten sensitivity gene I've seen linked to neurological problems is DQ 1. Of course, such problems can come from the celiac genes as well.

I don't know anything about DQ 3.

The good news of your results is that your malabsorption index is low, good for you!


4/2007 Positive IGA, TTG Enterolab results, with severe malabsorption: Two DQ2 celiac genes--highest possible risk.

gluten-free since 4/22/07; SF since 7/07; 3/08 & 7/08 high sugar levels in stool (i.e. cannot break down carbs) digestive enzymes for carbs didn't help; 7/18/08 started SCD as prescribed by my physician (MD).

10/2000 dx LYME disease; 2008 clinical dx CELIAC; Other: hypothyroid, allergies, dupuytrens, high mercury levels
