Just wanted to share this letter I got from Dannon. I originally asked about their yogurts because the ingredients listed both "modified food starch" and "modified corn starch".

"Thank you for contacting The Dannon Company, Inc. We sincerely appreciate your interest in Dannon yogurt products and gluten.

Dannon yogurt products are characterized as either gluten safe or not gluten safe.

Our Dannon Plain Lowfat, Plain Nonfat and Plain Natural are all gluten safe. Plain Activia in the 24oz container is also gluten safe.

All other Dannon yogurts and yogurt drinks cannot be designated as gluten safe because the natural flavor systems used might have ingredients added to stabilize the flavor that may be derived from gluten sources. These products are not specifically formulated to contain gluten but we cannot guarantee that the alcohol portion of the natural flavor system is always derived from corn and not from wheat, oats, rye and barley. We recommend you consult your allergist on the incidence of gluten proteins in ethanol derived from grains.

Thank your for posting that. I don't think that I have ever read a response from Dannon.

But, my preference is Yoplait who LABELS their product as gluten free. I really like to support those companies who do.

BTW, any time you see Modified Food Starch (in the US) you can always assume that it is derived from corn unless otherwise stated as "Modified Food Starch (wheat)". Wheat must be listed if used.

At least they are admitting it now. We have never been able to trust Dannon. 8 yrs ago when my sis and I went gluten free, Dannon would not disclose what was in their products, so we have not trusted them since then. I do not use any of their products.

      I have been looking for brands that are ready to make areas of time as I normally hear my oatmeal 1 min in microwave every morning. It appears buckwheat requires allot of cleaning soaking longer cook times. Any eat recipes have you tried. Also what's the reason if adding lemon juice to groats? Thanks

      @nancydrewandtheceliacclue, If I were you I would give up the bread tossing until everything is under control for a few months straight. Then try doing it again and see if symptoms return. If you just can't give it up, try wearing a good mask, tie your hair up tight, and take other steps to reduce the possibility of crumbs sticking to you and eventually ending up in your food. Attached below is a link to a nice graphic on what 10 mg would look like and I think it would be possible to ingest enough crumbs through the air. Also keep in mind that some people are reacting even at 10 mg per day.       I love buckwheat groats (or kasha). I also like to add peanut butter to it. There are a bunch of these alternatives but I also recommend amaranth. It's good with fruit and/or cinnamon.

      @nancydrewandtheceliacclue, if you had trouble breathing, I agree with Scott. That sounds like anaphylaxis.
