Glutenfree Skin/hairproducts And Make Up?

Saya

So, I have been glutenfree now for..20 years, being 21..

But I never considered gluten being in make up and skin/hairproducts.

Recently my boyfriend mailed a link to me, an article about people getting reactions on shampoo's containing gluten. And I started googling and found this website(the topic I found, I can't find anymore), with a topic about shampoo and the ractions some people had, such as hairloss, dry skin and dandrufflike reactions..

Having recognised that, I wondered, what products are glutenfree? How do you recognise it in the ingredientslist or on teh product?

And more importantly, I am wondering about international sold products, since I am not an american.

Aside from that, what about make up? And what about the make up you use with kids to make them lions and such?(I work with kids, so I can get painted on as well) Because on the official dutch websites about celiac I can't find anything about this anymore. :(

This topic comes up fairly regularly, as there are always new members. Speaking of which, welcome aboard!

Yes, it seems there can be reactions to skin/haircare products, cosmetics, etc. For soaps and shampoos, many times the ingredients will have something like barley extract, etc. There are companies who specifically make gluten-free products of this kind, or can provide some reasonable assurance of gluten-free status. Accidental ingestion seems inevitable with shampoo, and powdered makeup can easily become airborne, thus be inhaled.

I suppose there could be similar concerns about face paints as there are with finger paints, which usually contain gluten.

Saya, I am going to give you a link (which in turn has some links) about this issues. This thread is only a few days old.

To this list there (read to end) you can add Shisheido products (EVERYTHING gluten-free).

Hi Scott, yes I have had symptoms for years and this is the second GI I have seen and he could not believe I have never been tested. He called later today and I am scheduled for an endoscopy. Is there a way to tell how severe my potential celiac is from the results above? What are the chances I will have the biopsy and come back negative and we have to keep searching for a cause?

I agree christina, there is definitely many contributing factors! I have the pain today, my pelvis, hips and thighs ache! No idea why. But i have been sitting at work for 3 days so im thinking its my back. This disease is very mysterious (and frustrating) but not always to blame for every pain.

"her stool study showed she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that." The wording of this part of the sentence does not make any sense at all. I don't mean to insult you, but is English your first language? This part of the sentence sounds like it was generated by translation software.

What kind of stool test was done? Can you be more specific?
    • mishyj
Perhaps I should also have said that in addition to showing a very high response to gluten, her stool study showed that she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that.
