Post Diagnosis With Celiac Spru

Recommended Posts

I still have nausea after eating some foods, for instance fruit, chips, coffee, things with acid in them.

My question is will this pass after my stomach heals?

Does anyone have this symptom? Also, if you have experienced this and your stomach has healed

how long did the healing take? I was diagnosed w/celiac sprue in 01/09 and have been gluten and

casin free since them.

I would appreciate any help.

Thx.

Sounds a bit like me. I went off all grains and fruit etc. to help, though of course that really limited my diet. Now am trying the specific carbohydrate diet (scd). And while it still means no grains and no regular sugars etc., it does have more variety than what I was eating. The very cool thing is that now after just a few days on it I now can tolerate fruit as well as cheese, previously both no no's big time. The main thing is to go off anything mucilaginous as well as any complex sugars or carbohydrates. One of its mainstays is to make and use home made 24 hour yogurt and/or cabbage juice. Both seem to be very healing for the gut and seem to help with the general digestion of other basic foods. There is a thread here about it started by Ali. Check it out if you get a chance!

I recommend you read the book "Eat Right 4 Your Type" ISBN 0-399-14255-X. There are certain foods that are better, neutral, and definitely avoid depending on your blood type. I know it sounds strange at first but the logic is there. Nothing is worse than feeling hungry and sick. If you happen to be blood type O, many carbs are not good for you. I hope this helps.

I have to say if I ate the way this book says I should for my blood type I would be dead. It is an interesting read but please don't take it all as fact.

Yes, for most people these problems do pass once their stomach heals. Some people have additional intolerances though, as you know because of your casein allergy. It is recommended that you try a highly natural, plain diet for the first month or two (or when you're having any GI problems such as nausea), and then slowly re-introduce the processed, sugary and/or acidic foods such as the ones you mentioned.

A recent thread here may also prove helpful to you: http://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/index.ph...c=61945&hl=

Hope you feel better soon :)
