Muscle Soreness/fatigue

Anyone else feel this way? I am 7 weeks or so gluten free, however I realized last week I had a major issue to caisen, and had been eating it for days... so my GI symptoms came back full force, and my muscle twitching got way worse as well, with some painful spasms.. well 2 or 3 days since I've touched caisen- the twitching is improved.. but I was walking around yesterday a bit (which isn't anything new- but it was on rougher/rocky terrain) and now I feel like I ran a marathon!!

It literally feels like I went to the gym my legs ache/are sore (build up of lactic acid feeling)so badly!! Is this normal?? I just feel like I'm falling apart still! But my GI symptoms are better in the last 24 hours.. not sure if this is just a result from all of that or not! Thanks!

Could be, my muscles ache and I get very tired if I eat gluten and sometimes when I don't. I am not sure where it comes from. I know this doesn't help you except to know there are others that experience this.

Muscles are hard and they can't loosen up? I take the burpless Omega 3/6/9 for that and helps wonders. Someone else here suggested it to me and I find it really does work. Hopefully the spasma will stay away being off caesins but if you find that's not the fix, magnesium might help.

I'm 18 months into this and I'm still figuring this all out. I feel exactly the way you feel now. My poor little daughter has been suffering too so I had to figure it out...I believe it's teff flour so now I'm learning about gliadin vs gluten. Oy...It will get easier, but I think it's constant diligence.

If I were you I'd for sure lose the dairy while you're healing. And mentally prepare for some more bumps in the road. But you'll keep feeling better and better. Most days.

Yeah I started feeling the same way lately too. I've only been gluten free (failing off and on) for the last 4 months. I've been really tired with really sore muscles even those that I don't think I've used that much during the day. I also have realized when I feel the worst feeling just generally sick my body temperature dropped 1-2 F. Does this happen to anyone else? Also when I exercise I start feeling sick too and by the end of the night my muscles sort of twitch/minor spasm though this is much different than the spasm I use to get from gluten.

I just saw a doctor today my CBC is relatively normal and I don't have mono. Still waiting to see if it's iron, my thyroid, or something else.

I've had brief similar issues due to lack of salt intake before but those have always gone away by the end of the day after consuming Gatorade or cooking with extra salt.

And the fact is, no two celiacs will necessarily respond the same to gluten exposure. Some are "silent" celiacs and don't experience obvious symptoms. But that doesn't mean no harm is being done to their gut. It just means it is subclinical.

Thank you, Trents.  I appreciate your helpful and friendly reply. It seems more likely to be a bug.  It has been a pretty severe bought. I feel that I don’t have enough experience to know what signs my little one shows after exposure to gluten.

Hannah24, be aware that if you are on a gluten free diet, you will invalidate any further testing for celiac disease (except genetics) and would need to go back to eating significant amounts of gluten for weeks or months to qualify for valid testing.

Hello, @Hannah24 Have you had a DNA test done?  Celiac Disease is genetic.  You must have at least one gene to develop celiac disease.  You don't have to be consuming gluten for a genetic test.   Anemia, diabetes and thiamine deficiency can cause false negatives.  Some lucky people are seronegative, but still have celiac disease.  Peripheral neuropathy, tingling in hands and feet are symptoms of vitamin deficiencies.  Vitamin C, Thiamine B1, Niacin B3, Pyridoxine B6, and Cobalamine B12 can each cause peripheral neuropathy.  These same vitamins are needed to produce blood cells.  Most undiagnosed Celiacs suffer from nutritional deficiencies. The DNA test would be helpful.

We do hear of cases of remission but they generally eventually revert back. I wouldn't push your luck.
