Researchers Use CRISPR/Cas9 to Produce Low Gluten Wheat Strains
sunny2012 commented on Jefferson Adams's article in Gluten-Free Grains and Flours
Genetically altering plants has serious risks. CRISPR-Edited Cells Linked to Cancer Risk in 2 Studies "In the studies, published in Nature Medicine, scientists found that cells whose genomes are successfully edited by CRISPR-Cas9 have the potential to seed tumors inside a patient. That could make some CRISPR’d cells ticking time bombs, according t... -
"reduction in gluten-induced damage to their intestinal villi" REDUCTION in damage. Those who got the drug and participated in the gluten challenge had LESS damage than those who got the placebo. How much less? How much damage are those of us who have celiac supposed to accept as normal? What makes anyone think that damage to this critical...

ARCHIVED Chef That Wants Your Feedback
sunny2012 replied to allergiescooked's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I went to Las Vegas, NV U.S.A. We walked up to a hostess and mentioned gluten free. She asked if I have Celiac. Then she actually took me to the kitchen window to observe how they handle the meat and keep the entire kitchen separated with spices that are gluten free never touched by anyone who also handles gluten items. As she spoke, a wait staff member walked... -

ARCHIVED Questions About 1 Year Follow-Up Test.
sunny2012 replied to GFAnnie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have been gluten free for around 20 years. I thought I was finally "safe". NO WAY! I suddenly was really weak and sick for a week. Turns out I had a GI bleed. My GI specialist has a couple of patients who were almost as sick as me who eventually ended up with GI bleeds. He is trying to start some research to figure if this is random or a result of the long... -
ARCHIVED Duodenoscopes Spreading Super Bugs In The News
sunny2012 replied to sunny2012's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Personally, when it comes to medical procedures, I don't think "buyer beware" should be our acceptable level of risk. I have enough troubles with Celiac and the consequences of 40 years struggling to get a doctor to actually look at me instead of simply writing me off as a "mental case". I guess I made my suggestion in the post above. Changes do happen... -
ARCHIVED Duodenoscopes Spreading Super Bugs In The News
sunny2012 replied to sunny2012's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
What frightens me most is the those who contracted HIV and Hepatitis from a colonoscopy. The contamination percentage for those is only 3%! Yet, people have contracted Hepatitis and HIV from colonoscopies! How often do those actually involved biopsy while diagnosing Celiac ALWAYS involves multiple biopsies? With a contamination rate of nearly 25% AND multiple... -
ARCHIVED Frustrated With Results
sunny2012 replied to Nessabobessa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was contaminated by hubby baking cookies! I never even went into the kitchen. He spent an hour wiping down every surface. It was just from breathing in the flour in the air. The nostrils empty into the stomach. Then there are the surfaces when it settles. It can even get into the cabinets - doors are not air tight. I'd suggest that mom stop being allowed... -
ARCHIVED Duodenoscopes Spreading Super Bugs In The News
sunny2012 replied to sunny2012's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
ALL scopes are very difficult to properly clean. The rate for contaminated scopes is only slightly better for gastroscopes at 24 percent found contaminated. Compare that with 30 percent for duodenoscopes and the risks of serious infections is essentially equal for all upper GI procedures. information about dirty scopes of all sorts were known in 2013... -

ARCHIVED Here Are My Symptoms... What Do You Think?

That should have said Eliminate gluten = feel better, THEN stick with it; otherwise seek further professional advice from your doctor. -

Eliminate the gluten, feel better, stick with it. Otherwise, see your doctor for further investigation. -

Check out the type of endoscope your doctor wants to use. They can't be cleaned well enough to prevent antibiotic resistant bacteria surviving and several people ahve been made sick or died. Check out this article before you go so you can check to be safe: Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Is The Endoscopy Even Worth It?
sunny2012 replied to kabons's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You have to read this article before you decide to go thru an endoscopy. It is not the really safe procedure that we all thought. The risks of death from anti bio-tic resistant bacteria is very real. If you feel better on the gluten free diet and then get that sick eating it again after a short time, sounds to me like Celiac. You are already positive... -
ARCHIVED Glucose From Wheat
sunny2012 replied to ivyandwill's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It just amazes me that these things are slowly making their way back into a Celiac's diet. When I was diagnosed nearly 2 decades ago, anything derived from wheat was considered unsafe. Celiac can kill when we eat anything with even trace amounts of gluten. I nearly died from it. There is no real reason to eat such things and risk ruining our health. I sure... -
ARCHIVED When A Product Shouldn't Have Gluten But Does- Aaarrrrgggghhhh!`
sunny2012 replied to JazzyJake's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I remember taking hours and hours in the store reading only to walk out without anything but toilet paper and paper towels. It's best to shop around the outside of the store at first. Purchase only the fresh/frozen fruit/veggies and fresh meat. Take a journey of adventure down one of those other aisles when you have nothing else to do. -

I would worry about contaminating a young child too. Also, she is not really going to understand why she can't have some of what you eat. There are lots of people who have no symptoms. IT is called silent Celiac. My personal belief is that we accept a lot of poor health without realizing that it is not normal.

Some body systems are very reactive to even minor changes in vitamin mineral, fat, and protein absorption. And some "symptoms" appear minor to the medical profession. I recently had very severe dizzy spells which were written off as minor inner ear infection. A short time later, I was in hospital needing blood for severe low iron. The dizzy spells were early...

ARCHIVED Should Celiac Be Called A Disability? - Daily Beast
sunny2012 replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
Under the law Celiac is a disability. WE have no choice in if we eat gluten or not. It will kill. While not an allergy, it is not that different from preventing someone with a serious peanut allergy from getting any peanut in their meal. Do they pay more? I don't know if I agree or not. I was diagnosed by biopsy before the blood test was developed. IN... -
This appeared in our local news. These are safety standards to protect EVERY guest at a local pizza restaurant. There is nothing special being done for allergic/auto immune patrons here. Yet, they failed to follow even the simple hand washing protocol. Why would I trust that every employee would follow the even stricter requirements for a Celiac needing...

ARCHIVED Stomach Flu With Celiac
sunny2012 replied to hunter6009's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree. It seems that my stomach never really healed OR perhaps it is the constant assault on the immune system BUT I will get the same stomach flu and have it last twice as long as others.
