  1. I take 250mg with each meal and snacks. I read a book "Niacin, the real story" by Drs. Hoffer, Saul, and Foster, which advocates high doses. I started small and am increasing my dosage. I'm often sceptical of "cure-all," fad diet, latest health craze books, but this one confirms the research I did prior to stumbling across this book. I have experienced...
  2. Have you taken tryptophan? It helps me sleep. Just curious if that's one of the supplements your nutritionist recommended.
  3. Niacin definitely helped me with the itching!!! It has also helped me regain blood sugar control after years of being type two diabetic. My peripheral neuropathy is going away. My rashes have cleared. It's amazed me to feel the difference. I would be sceptical if I hadn't lived through it myself. You might want to consider going dairy free, too...
  4. Niacin supplements have helped me immensely.
  5. Hello. I have Celiac Disease and developed Pellagra. Pellagra is a vitamin deficiency disease caused by a deficiency of niacin. Symptoms include rashes on the shins and arms and around the neck, basically where the skin is exposed to the sun. Another symptom is brain fog. If untreated, dementia sets in. The small intestine absorbs niacin,...
  6. Sorry you're feeling so awful. Bananas are easier to digest if they have lots of black spots on them. Eating bright yellow ones might be difficult for your inflamed tummy. I agree with Bartfull, small frequent meals are better. I go by the five bite rule. Five bites of food at one little meal. And protein is important. The body needs protein for repairs...
  7. A little anatomy lesson, if you don't mind... remember, it is all one tube, just named according to location in the body. The Ascending colon is on your right side, flowing from your pelvis up to under your ribs. The Transverse colon runs across the body. The Descending colon runs down your left side. This is your Curly-Q exhaust pipe. Remember bubbles always...
  8. Be careful! Sounds like you may have a wheat allergy as well. You said your face and throat swelled up. This could block off your airway! You need to relate this to your doctor, ask about an epi pen, and allergy retesting.
  9. It may be the chai seeds. You said you were allergic to pollen. Chai seeds can trigger that pollen allergy response. I'm suspicious chai seeds may be cross contaminated in the field as well.
  10. I hope this helps. It says thiamin supplements may help. Open Original Shared Link I don't think doctors think about vitamin deficiencies.
  11. Hannah Z, you said you were low in some vitamins. Would you tell us which ones? I've been doing research and I've found some information that led me to believe that a thiamin deficiency may be the cause. Here's a link to one article. Open Original Shared Link I took a thiamin supplement and had astounding results. My peripheral neuropathy is greatly improved...
  12. I find a supplement called L-theanine helps. Be sure to get a gluten free kind.
  13. This might be interesting to you Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Do get your vitamin levels tested. I would not recommend slippery elm because it produces a slime that is difficult to break down.
  14. Open Original Shared Link Hope this helps. I know how you feel.
  15. Open Original Shared Link This article may be of help.
  16. Open Original Shared Link This article shows that nightshade do hurt the gut and exacerbate inflation. Open Original Shared Link This article is helpful, too.
  17. Here's an article that might help: Open Original Shared Link I have Celiac disease and other food allergies. I react very badly to anesthesia. It is an anticholinergic reaction. I have had anticholinergic reactions to anesthesia for abdominal surgery and even for numbing at the dentist. It made me feel irritated, crazy, depressed. I understand. Hang...
  18. There are three hundred symptoms of Celiac Disease. Everyone has different combinations and severities. I have found that the older I get the worse my reaction is, especially if I have been gluten free for a while. My arthritis is awful when glutened. I, too, have peeling gums when exposed. After my last dental appointment, I developed an ulcer where the...
  19. Open Original Shared Link Hope this link helps. Your history sounds similar to mine. I got much worse when I started taking antidepressants. Many medications commonly prescribed are anticholinergic. Things like antidepressants, antihypertensives, sleeping aids, antihyperglycemics, and antihistamines and antacids are anticholinergic. The more a person...
  20. Ask your doctor if you could be having an anticholinergic reaction to your antidepressant. Celiac disease messes up the metabolism and the drug doesn't get cleared out of the body properly. The build up has horrible effects. When it happened to me, it started with terrible diarrhea and increasing anxiety. The dose was increased and everything got worse...
  21. Bilberry helps me. Very interesting about the nightshades affecting your vision. Bilberry was used by pilots in WWII to help their night vision. I've enjoyed reading your posts. Thank you, sir.
  22. I tried Ashwaganda, but I quit taking it when I found out that it has anticholinergic properties, as do a lot of antidepressants. I find Passion Flower much better. I take a B-complex, D3, and flaxseed oil for the omega-3 which helps build the myelin sheath of the nerves.
  23. ArrrghMatey, I'm with you. I react to MSG and Sprite and other things, too. I found out the hard way that I react to anticholinergic drugs. There's something about Celiacs not being able to process and metabolize anticholinergic drugs properly. Anticholinergic drugs include anesthesia, antacids, antihistamines, antibiotics, antidiabetic medicines, and many...
  24. Could you be experiencing low blood sugar? Your symptoms seem similar to the ones I experience when I get low. I'm diabetic so I have to be aware of the amount of carbs consumed. I get very anxious and have muscle twitches when my blood sugar drops. Try a spoonful of honey when you feel anxious or twitchy. If it is low blood sugar, you should feel better...
  25. Open Original Shared Link I found this article very interesting. I have symptoms similar to what you describe. Fifty-one years undiagnosed. Fifty-two years old...still trying to sort it all out.
