  1. Open Original Shared Link Here's an article that explains how the B vitamins, including niacin, contribute to getting better sleep.
  2. I forgot to ask earlier...have you tried tryptophan to help with insomnia? It helped me sleep. It's part of the B complex of vitamins. With impaired absorption, some Celiacs find taking supplemental vitamins the only way to regain their health. In some cases, it is impossible to eat enough to make up the vitamin deficits. For example, some have to receive...
  3. I glad you found the articles interesting. I was prescribed the usual antidepressants and sleep aids, from clonipine, zolpidem, alprazolam, citalopram to benzodiazepines and tricyclic antidepressants, as well as medications for my worsening diarrhea. I ran the gamut. Nothing helped. I felt I was getting worse and the doctors just kept writing prescriptions...
  4. Please read this article about the kinds of drugs y'all are taking! Open Original Shared Link Dementia doesn't happen just to old people. It can happen to people with digestive disorders because the neurotransmitters that make your brain work correctly are made in the digestive tract. I understand what you're going through. I suffered...
  5. Jm34, oh, how frustrating your doctor visit was! Could you have a sulfa drug allergy? Those PPI's often are sulfa drugs. Many Celiacs develop a reaction to drugs containing sulfur. It's got something to do with an inability to metabolize them properly. Perhaps your doctor could recommend a different medication, one without sulfur. It's...
  6. Here's one of my favorite articles that explains the brain fog and depression. A deficiency of vitamin D can cause depression, too. Open Original Shared Link And here's another about how Riboflavin can help improve anemia. Open Original Shared Link Hope this helps you find your way
  7. JM34, I recommend the book "Niacin: the real story" by Dr. Abram Hoffer. Yes, when you first start taking niacin, you will experience flushing, but the longer you take it, the more the flushing subsides. The flushing is simply the blood vessels in your skin opening. The non-flushing/extended release niacin may cause gastrointestinal upsets that you would...
  8. JM34, Are you taking Niacin? You seem to have had diarrhea for quite a while now. You mentioned your acne came back. You say you get irritated easily. These are symptoms of Pellagra....diarrhea, dermatitis, and dementia. Open Original Shared Link This is an article about irritated esophagus in people with Pellagra. They responded to...
  9. When we switch to a gluten free diet, we may not be getting enough B vitamins. Many gluten free products are not enriched nor fortified like the wheat based products we used to eat. The B vitamins are needed every day. They help give the body energy and are building blocks of many necessary molecules that help our bodies heal and function normally, including...
  10. I was reading recently about nutrition in gluten free products and came across this article about the development of gluten free products... Open Original Shared Link It discusses nutritional value in paragraph 3.4. I found it interesting. Hope you will, too.
  11. Sounds like it may be a gall bladder problem. An inflamed gall bladder may produce too much or not enough bile, which could account for the variety of stools described. Did the doctor examine your gall bladder and its ducts when your liver was checked? I hope you feel better.
  12. Gemini, The article Open Original Shared Link says that glyphosate in Roundup blocks certain chemical pathways in the body *triggering* Celiac Disease. Glyphosate causes all sorts of health problems by itself. I'm saying that since glyphosates are sprayed on other food crops, perhaps the use of glyphosates on soy and corn, often used in...
  13. Open Original Shared Link This is an article that I found may explain why so many people with celiac disease seem to react to almost everything. It's a scary article.
  14. Oops
  15. Omeprazole contains sulfur. Are you allergic to Sulfa drugs?
  16. Egs1707, Did you ever get your vitamin D level checked??? I encourage you to do so asap. Depression can be caused by a deficiency of vitamin D. I was vitamin D deficient and the world looked as bleak and dark and foreboding as you see it now. Damaged villa can't absorb fats well, and vitamin D is a fat based vitamin. Your brain needs omega...
  17. You poor thing! You have been having a bad time! Bless your heart. I experienced similar weakness and anxiety. I had Pellagra in addition to Celiac Disease. Pellagra is a deficiency of Niacin, a B vitamin. The four D's of Pellagra are diarrhea, dermatitis, dementia and death. The dementia made me depressed and anxious. I could not think properly...
  18. There are Sulfites in vinegar. Some are naturally occurring and sometimes extra Sulfites are added and must be listed on the label if over ten ppm. Sulfites make mast cells release their histamine. Histamine is what causes allergic reactions such as rashes and runny noses and sinus problems, etc. Open Original Shared Link Open Original...
  19. There are fairly cheap glucometers (blood sugar testing devices) that you could purchase over the counter. You could test your blood sugar level during those times you feel weird. Blood sugar levels can change quickly. I can test fine while I'm sitting, but as soon as I get up and start moving, it can drop. Since you had a scope and nothing was...
  20. I agree, it could be diverticulitis, an inflammation of the descending colon. Little pockets form that trap food and become inflamed. It is seen on scopes when done from the bottom up (colonoscopy). Dehydration is possible with diverticulitis. Constant thirst is one sign of diabetes. Too high (or too low) blood sugar can make one's brain feel very...
  21. Ironictruth, Just like you have numbness in fingers and toes, your intestines have possibly got that numbness, too. So your intestinal muscles aren't scootching the digesting food along your digestive track. The intestines call for more fluid to help move things along, but with numb muscles which don't scootch the food down the line... things get clogged...
  22. Ironictruth, you said you take magnesium every day and that your last bm was pale. Magnesium is a laxative. It will make your poop pale. Try not taking the magnesium for a few days. The fluttering in the upper left abdominal area sounds like your upper colon is spasming from all the work it's having to do since the glutening and ensuing diarrhea. As...
  23. Ironictruth, I feel for you. Like you, I went through a bunch of testing without definitive results and was given an array of drugs to treat the symptoms. After struggling for years, a bright doctor came to the conclusion I was allergic to Sulfa drugs. The PPI's, the antidepressants, dental anesthesia, these and other drugs, all contain Sulfa...
  24. Oh, that's scary! I've had tachycardia. I've reacted to sulfites in food, such as wine and shellfish. But I also react to Sulfa drugs, medications with sulfur compounds in them. I understand there's a difference. I'm lucky, I react to food and medicines.
  25. I truly believe so. I'm allergic to all the different classes of sulfa drugs. I avoid them and any foods containing sulfites. How bad are your reactions to Sulfa?
