  1. Egs1707, Did you ever get your vitamin D level checked??? I encourage you to do so asap. Depression can be caused by a deficiency of vitamin D. I was vitamin D deficient and the world looked as bleak and dark and foreboding as you see it now. Damaged villa can't absorb fats well, and vitamin D is a fat based vitamin. Your brain needs omega...
  2. You poor thing! You have been having a bad time! Bless your heart. I experienced similar weakness and anxiety. I had Pellagra in addition to Celiac Disease. Pellagra is a deficiency of Niacin, a B vitamin. The four D's of Pellagra are diarrhea, dermatitis, dementia and death. The dementia made me depressed and anxious. I could not think properly...
  3. There are Sulfites in vinegar. Some are naturally occurring and sometimes extra Sulfites are added and must be listed on the label if over ten ppm. Sulfites make mast cells release their histamine. Histamine is what causes allergic reactions such as rashes and runny noses and sinus problems, etc. Open Original Shared Link Open Original...
  4. There are fairly cheap glucometers (blood sugar testing devices) that you could purchase over the counter. You could test your blood sugar level during those times you feel weird. Blood sugar levels can change quickly. I can test fine while I'm sitting, but as soon as I get up and start moving, it can drop. Since you had a scope and nothing was...
  5. I agree, it could be diverticulitis, an inflammation of the descending colon. Little pockets form that trap food and become inflamed. It is seen on scopes when done from the bottom up (colonoscopy). Dehydration is possible with diverticulitis. Constant thirst is one sign of diabetes. Too high (or too low) blood sugar can make one's brain feel very...
  6. Ironictruth, Just like you have numbness in fingers and toes, your intestines have possibly got that numbness, too. So your intestinal muscles aren't scootching the digesting food along your digestive track. The intestines call for more fluid to help move things along, but with numb muscles which don't scootch the food down the line... things get clogged...
  7. Ironictruth, you said you take magnesium every day and that your last bm was pale. Magnesium is a laxative. It will make your poop pale. Try not taking the magnesium for a few days. The fluttering in the upper left abdominal area sounds like your upper colon is spasming from all the work it's having to do since the glutening and ensuing diarrhea. As...
  8. Ironictruth, I feel for you. Like you, I went through a bunch of testing without definitive results and was given an array of drugs to treat the symptoms. After struggling for years, a bright doctor came to the conclusion I was allergic to Sulfa drugs. The PPI's, the antidepressants, dental anesthesia, these and other drugs, all contain Sulfa...
  9. Oh, that's scary! I've had tachycardia. I've reacted to sulfites in food, such as wine and shellfish. But I also react to Sulfa drugs, medications with sulfur compounds in them. I understand there's a difference. I'm lucky, I react to food and medicines.
  10. I truly believe so. I'm allergic to all the different classes of sulfa drugs. I avoid them and any foods containing sulfites. How bad are your reactions to Sulfa?
  11. Maybe it's an allergy to sulfites, preservatives often found in processed meats like sausage and luncheon meats, wines and shellfish. I have an allergy to sulfites and break out in bumps on elbows, knees, and palms when exposed. The bumps do resemble DH because it is the same type of reaction in the skin. Medicines often contain some sort of...
  12. Vitamin deficiencies may delay healing. Ask your doctor to test for deficiencies! Many Celiacs have poor absorption for an extended period of time and their vitamin stores get depleted. Some vitamins can't be stored and must be absorbed every day. Yet with poor absorption, eating enough to make up for a deficiency is very difficult. Vitamin...
  13. Activated charcoal capsules might help. Try avoiding dairy products and cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower) because they cause a lot of gas to be produced during digestion. Charcoal chemically absorbs some of the gas. Hope you feel better soon.
  14. I have Celiac Disease and Diabetes. Sounds to me like you're experiencing a low blood sugar episode. Did anyone test your blood glucose level during your hospital visit? When I get low, I get the drunk-wonky vision, too. After going gluten-free, I found I had to eat more often to avoid those crashes. I sometimes wake to a crash just like you did...
  15. Yes, MSG may be produced by wheat free methods now and therefore may be safe for Celiacs. However, MSG does stimulate the digestive tract. Perhaps it is this aspect of MSG that some Celiacs find intolerable. Open Original Shared Link
  16. I get sick if I eat chicken that has "natural flavorings" on the ingredient list. It is something added to chicken and beef and other supposedly fresh meats as a flavor enhancer. I have suspicions that it is something akin to monosodium glutimate (msg) which is made from wheat. There are brands of fresh chicken and other meats that don't have added...
  17. Steph, you sound so anxious, my heart goes out to you. Perhaps, if you look at this situation a little differently, you can find some peace. Remember, that while you may not be able to attend the doctor appointment made by your husband, your SON will be there. Your son (I'm assuming he's fairly normal) should be able to communicate to the doctor...
  18. I agree that most doctors never think food or vitamins could be an issue. That's why so many of us suffer for years before diagnosis, and afterwards as we slowly heal. If you're deficient, you need more than the daily requirement to make up for it. Theories exist that state the Recommended Daily Allowance is too low for many vitamins and that...
  19. I've found an interesting article that might help. This article looks at Vitamin B6 deficiency as a cause of kidney stone formation. Open Original Shared Link I believe that many people with Celiac Disease are deficient in B vitamins. The area of the small intestine that is damaged by Celiac Disease is the same area that absorbs B vitamins and...
  20. Do your rashes get worse if exposed to the sun?
  21. I take 250mg with each meal and snacks. I read a book "Niacin, the real story" by Drs. Hoffer, Saul, and Foster, which advocates high doses. I started small and am increasing my dosage. I'm often sceptical of "cure-all," fad diet, latest health craze books, but this one confirms the research I did prior to stumbling across this book. I have experienced...
  22. Have you taken tryptophan? It helps me sleep. Just curious if that's one of the supplements your nutritionist recommended.
  23. Niacin definitely helped me with the itching!!! It has also helped me regain blood sugar control after years of being type two diabetic. My peripheral neuropathy is going away. My rashes have cleared. It's amazed me to feel the difference. I would be sceptical if I hadn't lived through it myself. You might want to consider going dairy free, too...
  24. Niacin supplements have helped me immensely.
  25. Hello. I have Celiac Disease and developed Pellagra. Pellagra is a vitamin deficiency disease caused by a deficiency of niacin. Symptoms include rashes on the shins and arms and around the neck, basically where the skin is exposed to the sun. Another symptom is brain fog. If untreated, dementia sets in. The small intestine absorbs niacin,...
