Still unsure.....
Beverage replied to badastronaut's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You said the colonoscopy showed no damage. Did you also have an endoscopy? The upper colon is where celiac damage would be detected via endoscopy, not the colon. -
"Celiac disease can be considered a disability under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) if it substantially limits one or more major life activities, including working. Employers are required to provide reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities, which may include modifications to the work environment or adjustments in work...

My college aged step grand daughter, diagnosed with Celiacs 2 years ago, did get a reaction after kissing her new boyfriend. It was driving her nuts trying to figure it out until I asked her if she'd been kissing anybody. She went beet red. They did some testing of the situation, and thought that was the source. For her, having him drink something and...

Beverage replied to lehum's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I contacted nuts.com and they responded with: They are not shared on processed lines or contaminants. They are on an exclusively gluten free line. -
nuts.com -- no longer Celiac safe?
Beverage replied to lehum's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Nuts.com has a different label for gluten-free (gluten-free in a circle), and one for GFFP certified (GFFP icon). Which one was on your package of nuts? -
Until I was 19 years old, docs told me I was anemic and to take iron. I had the same side effects from the iron that you describe, felt awful. Then when I was in college, I had a really bad reaction and it took a medical student to actually give me iron and retest within 30 days to find that the iron was not improving my anemia at all. He found out that...

New diagnosis for 3 year old. Help!
Beverage replied to lizzie42's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The doc that diagnosed me emphasized that the ears, eyes, nose, and mouth all drain to the same place. He said, besides obviously not eating foods containing gluten, to eliminate flours from my world immediately. If gluten flour is used, it gets into the air, and would be breathed in through the nose, which drains down to the stomach. Also, if it... -
I went through issues with oats when first diagnosed. I thought I couldn't eat any oats at all, even certified gluten-free. Then I learned about purity protocol oats. The list here has gotten smaller through the years, so I check it every time I order. I had been ordering one brand on the list that was later found to contain lower levels of gluten. I...

I've recently researched a lot about salt lately. Celtics sea salts have minerals, which have been tested to include aluminum, cadmium, iron, lead, and microplastics. I used to use Redmond salt, but it tests as having aluminum, iron, and lead. I finally settled on 2 clean salts: Vera Salt, which you can only order from their web site. Also Ava Jane's which...

Has anyone struggled with high blood pressure?
Beverage replied to Santina's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I had horrible reaction to lisinopril, a severe cough that kept me up all night. The cough is apparently common. I did better with irbesartan, no cough, and it controlled my BP better too. -
Sorry if I was unclear, I was not talking about Disinfection lamps at all, the D in D lamp stands for vitamin D, not Disinfectant. These are vitamin D lamps that stimulate your own body to make vitamin D.

Safe Gluten-Free Spices and Brands: A Celiac Disease Guide
Beverage commented on Scott Adams's article in Gluten-Free Foods & Beverages
Morton & Bassett spices are labeled gluten free. I've been using them for years, no problems. I order direct from them as the selection at my grocery is very limited. They have a newsletter with regular discounts and specials: https://mortonbassett.com/ Spicely another good gluten free brand, CERTIFIED gluten-free, but not widely available where...- 1 comment

I feel for you. I've had an interesting history with some vaccine, especially t-DAP. One time after just getting it, I remember walking from the pharmacy to my car, reaching for the door handle of my car as my last memory, then waking up slumped into my car with the door wide open hours later. Nobody even knew I was there. I did get a bad cut from rotting...

Tums is an antacid. Calcium (also vitamin D) need it acidic for absorption, so you're not really getting any calcium benefit. Try DGL, it coats rather than counteracts acid. You need acid anyway to digest and get those vitamins. It's usually not too much acid that causes heartburn, it's not enough acid which causes food to rot and ferment in the stomach...

I'd like to suggest nuts.com. They have a gluten-free section. I've never had an issue and their nuts are super fresh tasting. I eat them every day as afternoon snack. They label the packages as gluten-free, and more and more as Certified gluten-free. Here's their statement on gluten free: Gluten-Free The FDA is the only regulatory agency...

My D was always low. It got better with gluten free diet, but was always below range or barely in range. I tried increasing D vitamins, found that K2 helps absorption of D. It improved a bit, yet remained on low end of ok range. After covid and bad flu years, i really wanted to get my D way up. We live in the Pacific Northwest, do lots outside 3/4 of...

New to all of this
Beverage replied to Newhere19's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I got an official diagnosis from a naturopathic doctor, based on: 1. Very high blood antibodies 2.dna test and 3. Response to gluten free diet. I'm in the United States and have had absolutely no push back ever. My step granddaughter received an official diagnosis from an MD based on high antibodies blood test only. She's also in the U.S. and was told... -
Antibodies went up
Beverage replied to Barcino's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Sounds like you're very careful with food. Any possible airborne or non-eating exposures? One time I got really sick from feeding my neighbor's chickens, the feed would get kicked up and I'd inhale the dust, read the ingredients, yup gluten. Another time we were doing some home remodeling, removed some old plaster, probably gluten in that. Anything... -
Oh gosh. I remember being shocked when my new doc said he thought I had Celiacs (went in bcuz kidneys were failing, no intestinal issues), but relieved at first to find an explanation for my issues. Then as I hit the library and the internet and read up on Celiacs, I got sooooo depressed and overwhelmed. Funny you say "is it an italian thing?" ... I'm not...
